no..its called...trying to tell him to lay off the slang and abbreviations for a minute and talk to us normally...maybe you can decifer all that "wit...koo..yo gee " crap...but i cant..would you go to a job interview talking like that just because you write on a peice of paper like that?..i dont think so!

Woah woah woah, hang on one second. I was typing out a post on what you did and didn't need and wanted to check the specs on that tascam 2488 on Musicians Friend's website. Well this recording package looks suspiciously like what you have.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/241108/
TASCAM 2488 24-track digital recorder, Sennheiser HD-280 Pro closed-back headphones, MXL 992 large-diaphragm condenser mic with case, 2 Nady CM 90 cardioid condenser mics, BBE 362 Sonic Maximizer signal processor, one pair Fostex PM-1 monitors, 3 On-Stage tripod stands with booms, 4 Lo-Z 20' mic cables, 4 LiveWire 10' instrument cables, and 2 Telex 48X 50-CDR spindles.

Called up studios to find out what you need? Riiiight...

Ha! ROFL, that is funny, he did call studios and they told him "The whole banana in one low-cost deal. Don't waste any more time, order today. "

Seriously though, this is why people were telling you that you could have gotten better stuff for your money, these package deals aren't necessarily made for the discriminating buyer. if you haven't actually bought this stuff yet, keep reading and researching and you will find other good options that will pay off for you int he long run.

Also, don't mind the angry and sarcastic comments, even when they are accurate-- you will still get lots of help here.

Daav.

im glad you wasted your money on shit you dont even know how to use!..now go get your gat and homies and jump in the fly vehicle and hunt me down for a neighborly drive by!.......word

OMG!!! Man, that was kind of harsh, but I just about fell out of my chair laughing when I read it!!!! too funny :D

lil_lo, while most of us want to help everyone we can, I must agree with what's being said here. It would be a lot easier to read your posts if you were typing in english. (using periods to end sentences would be nice, too) Of course it's a free internet. You can do what you want.

Hey dude, while I agree is was quite foolish for you to have bought a 1900 dollar package deal that you only need about 25% of, I'm not going to give you too hard of a time for it simply because this is the noobie forum. However, the bullshit lines about calling around to studios and things is pretty rediculous. You won't get any respect from anybody by spitting out shit like that. Nobody would have suggested most of the stuff in that package to someone who wants to record rap music. If you want some legitimate help around here, just ask for it. But try to cut the bullshit.
And on a side note....you have a "homie" that plays electric guitar but he doesn't own a cable?? that is the craziest shit I've ever heard.....

I wish people would get off this guys back, he came here for help and certain peeps are acting like he doesnt deserve it because he went about his purchases the wrong way. Well thats what yo do when you dont know what your doing. He's been misinformed. Can somebody actually help him with what he HAS got??

And who cares how he talks anyway. The 'jump in your fly vehicle' was a cheap shot. Sounds like someones drunken uncle at a family party criticising the way some kids are dressing. This isnt a job interview btw.

Well, I for one was not criticizing anything about the guy except for his obvious bullshit story about the studio referrals for all of his gear. That is rediculous. Besides, if he had friends in studios that directed him to all that gear, then what would he have to ask us? I am not against helping the guy, and I don't think anybody else is either, It's just that nobody likes to deal with an unrealistic and nearly unintelligible bullshitter.

Most of you telling people to keep off this guys back and answer his question need to read. I and many other people told him what he didn't need and did need. The next thing out of his mouth is fuck yall shit this shit that wit 2 blah blah blah. Then to top it off he tries to tell us he got advice from local studios. I don't know a studio in the world that would recommend an mxl992 and two cm90's by Nady. So like I said plenty of us offered advice, and what did we get in return, no "thank yous" we got a bunch of bullshit. I think after being called out we might not even see this guy around again.

And we can be free to NOT help him, especially if it is extra work just trying to decipher the question.

You want help? Help us understand YOU.

I noticed that line too! I have a homie who plays guitar, but he doesn't have any picks or strings, so I figured I'd pick some up for him!

My thoughts are is if someone can blow $1900 without doing any research or having any experience has too much money for their own good.

"Hey, I just bought this Martin D45, where do I put my fingers on it to make pretty music?"

okay... im gonna not keep up with the synicism.
what i havew heard is for rappers a couple of dynamics are good to have, some people like having a microphone in thier hand, its what they are used to, will feel comfortasble with and will make good music with. Also if your serious about this, treat your room acoustics.

(also sorry for being a dick before ;) )

lil_lo,

Work on a piece or two and share it with us so we can better understand where you stand with your recording/mixing ability. From there we can give you tips, advice, etc. Also, I noticed you didn't mention how your were planning on creating beats - do you already have something to tackle this?

lil lo, I'd suggest that the only things on your list of gear that aren't probably going to be very useful are the Nady mic's and the BBE maximizer. Vocal mic's are very user specific, so you might luck out and have the MXL 992 work for you, but don't count on it. For vocal mic's you've just got to try them - in a store, in a studio, or rented. The Studio Projects B1, the MXL V67G, the Sure SM57 would be other possibilities.

The other thing that comes to mind is the acoustics of the room you'll be setting up in. It's critical for both recording quality and monitoring effectively. Generally, bigger is better and less reflective is better. Lots of info around here, if you use the search button, on monitoring setup and acoustic treatment of rooms.

Also, later when you get used to tracking on the Tascam multitrack you may want to transfer files to the computer for processing. That allows you to use the many hundreds of free processing plugins available online (compressors, limiters, reverb, delays, EQ's, etc.) that may give you more variety than what's built into the Tascam. N-Track is a good software recorder/processing app. Its demo is free, fully functional and has no time limit.

Good luck with it.

Tim
