What else do i need?

Well i am a newb to let everyone know and im only 15 at that!

im trying to start a recording studio through my pc. I know it can handle it because my dad put in the right stuff for recording

that beeing said lets talk about hardware

what sound card is the one i need? firestation or fire wire 828
the other model is to much money :-(

can you name 2 good Cheap monitors (double counts as one)

im going to get a deal on a board, but i need to know. the ones that the mics plug in have preamps built in right? or am i totaly wrong?

im getting sonar for free thats another 200 bucks i dont have to spend!!

what else do i need to complete the ENTIRE system besides microphones and chords.... thats a given? try to keep this under 1000 the first thousand should cover everything else i was talking about.

What type of things do you think you want to record? Midi? Audio? Midi/Audio? How many ins/outs will you need? Are you going to be multitracking or will you be recording one instrument at a time (guitar, bass, keyboard) or will you need to mic a drum set? Give some more info, please.

The quality of the board and its preamps could be questionable. Mackie seems to be the popular choice around here, but people do use Behringer.

The answer to that question could be best given with more information on what it is you are trying to record... But, you might need things like decent mic pre's, a midi interface, etc...

yeah i should have mentioned what im using it for...

ok im eventualy going to have a Jazz band together (NOT SMOOTH JAZZ) and it will consist of drums, saxophone, bass, piano(not keyboard), and possibly trumpet might not though.

the pc is an AMD Duron pentium 4

i want to make it audio im not sure what ins and outs are for...

i want the whole band playing at once so it would be multi tracking i think.

if i need 3 mics on drums 1 sax 1 piano the bass is either acustic or electric anyway you plug it in to the interface right? I think i'll need 6 or so mics so i would need 6 channles

im pretty sure i need passive monitors but like i said before im new at this

is sonar not so good? what about Q base xx?

As far as a soundcard goes, something along the lines of a Delta 66 (6 inputs), Delta 1010 (10 inputs), or an STAudio C-Port (10 inputs). Their prices range from $300 - $600. I checked here for prices.
Now, for mics, I am not going to even try and tell you too many specifics, I would go to the mic forum and ask what types of mics and how many you need for recording a drumset, etc... But, you will probably need to get a couple of Shure SM58s or SM57s.

There is nothing wrong either Sonar or Cubase SX. I personally use Sonar 2 and love it. The only thing I was saying about not touching that comment you made on Sonar was that you were getting it for free. A lot of users here on this board have pretty strong feelings on how you aquire your software (myself included). If you get an original copy of either Sonar or Cubase you will get the much needed manual. That said, I will leave that alone. But, either program will be just fine for multitracking purposes. There is other software to look at, N-track is another. Alot of them have free demos so you can evaluate them. Check out the different forums here on homerecording.com

Now monitors. Passive monitors require a separate amp to power them. Active monitors supply their own power. Ones to look at would be Event 20/20, Tannoy Proto-J. Obviously, there are many more out there.

Mackie boards are popular around here.

You mentioned trying to get all $1000 or less. I don't think it is going to happen, honestly.

After you buy the soundcard, and enough mics to mic everything there is no room for monitors and a board. I suggest that you keep doing research and do some money saving.
