im buying a mxl 990 and behringer mic100 preamp for my PC. these should be compatable with my acid music software and pc right? or do i need somthing else?

and also what kind of cable do i need to connect the preamp to my PC? or do i need to install somthing in my PC for it to be able to connect with the pre amp?

im only gonna need the mic to record about 2 or 3 vocal tracks per project...

thanks...

What are you using to turn your analogue signal into a digital one?

Your PC probably has integrated sound on the MOBO or a crappy soundcard already installed. The type of input will dictate the type of cable you need but it will probably be a 1/8" minijack. So for a cable you'll need whatever comes out of the pre (1/4" jack? xlr?) at one end and mini jack (assuming that's what's on your comp) at the other.

It's very important that if you're using an external mic pre you go into the LINE input and not the MIC input.

You'd do well to get a decent soundcard for recording, the M Audio Audiophile 2496 is very respectable for around $100:

yeah but i only got a 120 dollars to work with so figured the mxl990 and mic100 preamp would be ok to start off with...

Fair enough, I just thought I'd point out that a-d conversion quality is fairly important.

Integrated sound isn't the best but at least you'll be able to start making music.
