Home recording studio setup?? Help please?
I'm looking to set up a home recording studio for my band, but we don't know much about recording stuff. However I do already have the following:
1. Garageband on my Mac
2. Two Shure SM58s and one SM57

My band has one bass player, one guitarist, one vocalist, one pianist, and one drummer.
How should I set up the studio?
Do I need preamps, external sound cards, digital mixers or anything else? If yes, how do I arrange them? (how do they function together?) And what are some great, cost-efficient and value ones I can buy?

Please help me and give info in detail.

Okay so, I'm looking at a few audio interfaces and I intended to go for the Profire 610 by M-Audio. Is it any good? Can I hook up 4 XLR microphones and 2 guitars at the same time?

Buy a digital Interface(about 100$+). These have instrument/mic inputs(1/4in or XLR) as well as preamps and phantom power. If you buy an interface new it will plug directly into your computer and have directions on setup. Alot of people now just do all of their mixing in their DAW(digital audio workstation)and skip the mixer altogether, yours would be garage band. One interface that I would recomend would be the M-Audio fast track pro, it has 2 mic/line inputs and costs 150$ new. If you feel like you'd want more inputs for recording the drums then go with the M-Audio fast track ultra it can record up to 6 channels and costs around 350$ new.

Is there anything that comes with a FireWire interface?

You have it all, it's called the forum search function, followed by lots of reading, all the answers are here already. Start here. Also read lots of recording magazines.

If you need a General MIDI sound module and don't want to use the cheesy samples on your PC's sound card, the original Roland Sound Canvas can be had cheap on Ebay.
