Seems I have a hard time with eq in my mixes. I am not good at adjusting the eq on instruments to get them to sit properly in the mix. I think mainly bass and guitars? What do you think? What else could be done to improve the mix?
Advice appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

Thanks for the advice Kcearl
Got the dropbox up and running.
So here is the dropbox link:

Well you don't need my input at all because I think it sounds freaking awesome the way you got it. I wish I could do as good. Great song too!

After just working with someone effects laden vocals my only nit would be that I find it hard to make out the lyrics at times...and I think with this style they should be easy to hear...perhaps the EP is a little too loud...damn Im really being persnickety

Other than that I wouldnt know where to start..Id imagine where you are is the level of production many can only hope for...very very professional, super tight performance, and drums, keys, guitar were perfect for the genre...

I hope your expertise can help others in here...good job man :)

One thing...downloaded MP3s will really limit your feedback in here..i know a few seconds dont seem to mean much but on average the return rate of views per thread is 10%...and downloads will lessen that even further

Thanks guys!
The biggest thing that is bugging me other than the vox that kcearl mentioned is it seems my mixes don't sound that good cranked up on a good stereo. They seem to be eq'd kind of weird. If that makes sense? The bass seems to be very bottomy. And the distorted guitars seem to have a bit of a fuzz and weird eq. I probably record with too much gain on the guitars to get the sustain and feel but I think alot of guitar player suffer from the same gain syndrome!:D

PS....what do you mean by downloaded mp3s?

Where is a good place to upload the songs?

Thanks again!! ;)

yup the sign of good mix that translation...well I listened to yours on one of my "translators" and it sounded good to me

when it comes to playing MP3s many like the option just to press the play button on a link rather than download the song first...especially when the member may be less known

heres a referral for dropbox...it places a file on your desktop you can just drop songs in the copy an online link so folks can listen without downloading..also good for file sharing with other dropbox users

http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTMxNDY4MDU5?src=global

if its a bit complicated soundcloud is also another good option..as these let you host 320kbps quality

Thanks again!

I'll see if I can figure out the dropbox thing.

it needs to be about 150 BPM faster with some slamming drums and ripping electric guitars. Some kind of random screaming would be nice as well.

Although I'm partial to solo classical guitar pieces. It could use just one lone guitar that is being played so well there is no need for a backing musical instrumentation.

Hmmmm.....I guess I'll have to call on your services for this song then! Don't think I'm capable of that task!:D

Thanks for the advice kcearl!
I replaced the link with the dropbox link. ;)

Sounds pretty good cranked up on my rig! Maybe just a tad of low mids building up, but not even enough for me to be sure. Great stuff!

Very nice mix r4m,

I cranked it on my crap monitors and the bass held together as well as other material I use to benchmark with. Perhaps I noticed a touch too much essing on the vocal in the quieter sections.

Sounds nice, I felt it was a bit too wet with verb/ delay though. Nice solo at the end. I also think the crash cymbals sounded a bit too splashy/phasey. Voice sounds a bit low. Nice work.

Thanks Joeym! Cymbols may be getting squished? I think I'm going a bit heavy on vox effects to get a certain feel. Maybe I should turn off the lava lamp and snuff out the incense while I'm mixing!! :laughings:
