I'm curious as to everybody's motives here for making music, I did a few searches on the forum and looked through the pages, and if i overlooked a similar thread, my apologies...

Ideally i'd have made a poll out of it... i'll just nail some statements to corner you ;) but no need to stick to that, of course.... thanks for participating!

1. I (want to) make a living of making music.
2. I want/love the rock'n'roll lifestyle, drugs, get laid, be famous and adored.
3. I just think it's fun to make music.
4. I have a call, I'm on a mission.
5. I do it for therapy.
6. I need to express myself.
7. I'm trying to force the neighbours to move.
8. I'm not into music, I'm into chaos.
9. I have no idea what you're talking about, I thought this was the mp3 clinic.

I'd answer number 3, as it's the closest thing to why, for me. I've always enjoyed music. I have had music surrounding me for all the time I can remember. So I have always listened, and once I got older, decided to try and play. Just for my enjoyment, but wound up in some very weird settings as a "band" at different times. Always tried to have fun, and when it became not fun, I put the guitar away for quite a while. I still spend lots of money on cd's, and listen to hours of music each day, but also like to try and get some of the thoughts out of my head, and into music. Quite interesting, to say the least. All for fun, but now I let people listen to some of what I do, in the hopes that either they can help me to learn how to make it sound better, how to better express what I want to hear, or maybe even play along and have some fun.

I know, long, drawn out, blah blah balh......

That's my story, and for a few beers, I'll change it.

You didn't list mine...

It is the PASSION to Be...what is heard, seen, and felt with the heart, that drives me to seek a release. And only the music does that for me.... :)

TRUE

Honestly, I just want a median for everyone to get a small chance, just a small little glimse, as to the greatness that is me. Its more for them than me. :D

I want to play more active bass guitar without being buried by other instruments, so that means I have to do everything. It's a #4 thing with me.

Got sickof being in bands....

tired of egos and infighting and people that wanted different things.

I like being able to realize my vision of a song without paying a gazillion dollars to produce it.

I really enjoy the software tools that have grown up in the last couple of years.

I don't wanna be a rock star or try to make a living off of music but I want to do as good a job as I can when I record.

1 through 6.
Maybe dont NEED to express my self through music, but I do enjoy writing tunes that have emotion.

I write music to express myself.

Personally I know I am not particularly good at playing guitar, with recording software, or at singing, but my songs always have a message I want to get accross.

I think my main aim for the music I am writing at the moment is to have at least say 50 people download it, and for it to get in about 5 of those peoples playlists. If it influences just one person, then my purpose is complete.
