Upgrade completed

Damn B... I just upgraded and it took about 3 minutes like everyone said.

Mr Rock came thru, I'll be sending it your way with the directions.

First thing I did was play with the fader and it appears to have better resolution... i'm not sure what else was upgraded.

it was 3 minutes total, very simple... version 1.02.

:)

may the guru of upgrade fairys be on our side.

Can't wait Cool. I'll be watching my snail mail box for it. Don't know why I couldn't download and burn one from the Tascam site. I tried about 15 times but the damn CD wouldn't read from my 2487. This would make my whole freakin year man. Just the thought of making that glitch at the end of every CD I burn dissapear makes my faders rise! :D

I sent you my address last night through the email with some graphics and music files. Took about 11 hours to leave my OE mail box. Hope you were able to recieve it OK.

You're from Iowa? very "quiet" state. No? I mean, I don't think I've ever known anyone from Iowa. Ohio. But not Iowa. I know that it gets cold there though. I used to live in Vermont where it gets 30-40 below 0 in the winter months. Now I have to pay big time for air cond. here in the Hurricane State. (used to be called the Sunshine State)

"i love the electricity and having a toilet in the house." The things we take for granted. Huh. :o

Still,...

the 2488's tooooooooo complicated for me! I'm soooooooooo old school mentality! Maybe it's my mental deficiency to comprehend menus! I dunno!

The loads of users' bug reports kinda scares me off the subject, too!

I keep hearing how the 2488 is the best thing since sliced bread, but after looking closer, I'm always put off by it!

I guess I'm still too 20th-century in my recording habits and expectations.;)

Shift-escape-reset. Shift-submenu-turn-a-knob. Green means go, yellow means caution, & red means "watch out!" Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhh!

Yes, the CD, its in the mail going to FL! :)
Old days, New days...144, 2488. I paid nearly the exact same for both, that still amazes me! the upgrade is faster than rewinding a cassette... its that simple.
Mixing 101: summer break is over...
I've got to start a new tune and will return to my long winded questions on mixing 101. Tho my last song was a big improvement for me, i can still hear alot of things that aren't jelling or missing..but can't put my fader on it!

The Reel, thats why your the man, for being real. I dig it, and you know many pro's never went digital. They still play analog acoustic guitars.
i agree if it stiffles the creative juices, its just no good no matter what it is for you. whether its a guitar feel or analog/digital, menus or splicing 2" tapes.

I can't wait for your 2488 Weekend testdrive... it'll be interesting, and if nothing else funny!
reminder: You won't get a refund if you take a hammer to it tho!

you know my upgrade goals were met.
not only did it offer me to keep tracking & grooving with 24,
it also satisfied my urge to get a Masterlink/limiter too for burning CD's!

then i added the Joe Meek Channel Strip so I can have my Analog interface (with lit up analog VU meter and everything!!)
so this reduced the initial Menu hell fear. which doesn't scare me anymore really.

plugged my 2488 outs to the Tascam PA150 and hooked up some little BW303's and built some speaker stands DIY's and its very comfortable. yes indeed. (but i'm still a speaker whore and would like to hear every one of em!)

the big thing tho was the skills, if you've read my babbling threads.
BMWerks Tracking 101...keep it simple.... keep the groove..stop the burn out.
so really for Tracking, there isn't any eqing, panning, and menus sht goin down. its just fun, simple, fresh.

now when tracking is over...and the gear is cleaned and put away,
i can sit down with some coffee or rum/coke...and Mix. :) :) :)

or should i say "try to mix"? doh! whtever its more enjoyable to Track and Mix in this manner.

"They still play analog acoustic guitars."

Pianos too. :o And what about the saxaphone? and the wash tub single string bass? :D and the wash board makes a fine analog rythmn instrument too. :rolleyes:Its all about results gentleman. Results often uses both mediums and in whatever combination necessary to achieve results. However, I can only speak for myself and don't care to advise anyone on the drawbacks or advantages of either analog or digital. ;)

My question is, do we hear in analog or digital? Do our minds take analog photo images or digital images? My guess is it's somewhere in between and both.

But wait! one is magnetic and the other is__________ fill in the blank :p

Mixing- 101

Mixing 101-back in class

Ok i printed out your previous "generic starting place" Pans.
Adhering to this for a testout.
Now I'm doing the some Eqing...this seems difficult, time consuming..to undo the masking...or improving seperation (muddy ass sound in the mid-lows).
rythm guitar, Piano, Bass!! like crowding and the muddy section.

Your inputs are really helpful,, almost like giving a drunk some coffee!

"Trial and Error"...is ok, but any Freq suggestions??
with some basic pointers to start from???

Its like my son, playing and being creative is great...trial and error...
but learning how to tune your guitar is very helpful too!

thats my big mental line for the day..whoooh exhausting. :p

It took me 15 years to get sick of looking at mine. They just aren't keeping up sonicly with the kinds of frequency signals the rest of my digital tools put out... I'm getting better mixes working with my AKG K-240 Studio cans. Though I like them a lot for playbacks, late night listening and quick checks, they can get a little tiresome after about 5 or 6 hours at the 2487.
i just read this whole thread again... you use headphones for final mix?

I have some brand new AKG271 i traded a melted drum set for, never opened the box. my Sony are ok? i use them for a check and listen at night for bumps and other noises.

Monitors:
did you find any monitors of interest yet? just wonderin'...

re-reading your NS10 comments, thats strange learning and ruffing it out with the NS10's. That logic would say you "could" use about any speaker but it would be painful and timely?

what made you decide on 4408's?

??????????????
i have these BW303, i like them alright...to my ears.
but something concerns me, when I used the JBL Control 5's i could hear more details (especially in the mids)...kind of what i call "ear bleed"..upper midrangy sound.
Example: i could easily hear reverb tails on vocals on Sgt Pepper, but when switched to my BW's, there wasn't any of the reverb details??...

my confusion in other words,
is "would i be better off Learning on the Control 5's?"
... kind of train my ears to better mixing monitors.

i'd like to hear the 4408's...i already know your mixes sound fabulous, and you've had the chance to hear actual studio monitors in use..yet you bought them.
do the 4408's have more mid's than your standard stereo speakers?
maybe this is a good sign thing that i call "ear bleed mids"...maybe this is a sign of a good mixing speaker..and i just have consumer stereo ear habits! ear habits...oh my.

Hopefully, the next pair of monitors I get will last half as long.
Think I'm sold on the B&Ws Cool. Thanks.
