I have a Roland VS-880 Digital Studio Workstation. I also have a decent computer. (P2 400mhz, 128 meg ram) My question is..What would be the best thing for recording? I would assume the Roland would be, but I've been told that computer based is better because of the processor being able to do calculations, and FX better. I dunno. I have enough recording software for the computer.( Cool Edit Pro, Wavelab,Plugins, etc..) The only thing it is lacking is a decent sound card. thats kinda why I posted this..If a computer is better, I'd start working on a better set-up for it. But of course, I don't want the Roland to sit around and collect dust..heh. Any comments would be appreciated...thanks

So, don't let the Roland VS-880 collect dust. Sell it on Ebay ( $1,100 to $1,200 ) and use the money to upgrade your DAW ( i.e. - new soundcard, faster HD, RAM, mixer or preamp )
Just a suggestion.

Or use both of them and get the benefits each offers.

I have both, and I record with the 880 when I need to travel. I then dump everything to the PC using an SBLive with the digital connection. Allows me to record easily with the 880, I didn't spend a lot of money for PC sound hardware, and it's portable when I need it to be.

Just another option.

I think I'll just use the Roland for recording and mixing purposes, and buy a decent sound card w/ digital in(soundblaster live?)and route it into my computer and use my software to touch up anything. Then into my internal cd burner. I really don'y have a problem with tracks, since the Roland has 8 tracks with 8 vitual tracks for each=64 ..Plus bouncing tracks isn't a problem with it being digital..

Whats a good soundcard with digital in thats halfway reasonable price? Soundblaster live?
