Well I wish that I had found this forum before I went out and purchased my equipment but alas I was a few days late. Anyways I was wondering what you all thought about what I am using...

The brawn : a DAW (AMD Athlon 750mhz, 768MB PC133, ASUS A7V, 2x 40gig Western Digital ATA 100, 3COM 10/100 NIC, SoundBlaster Live Value, 64MB Geforce 2 MX)... I'm running Windows XP optimized for the audio work, Cakewalk SONAR, and Fruityloops 3.

The ears: a Rode NT1000... I did some research and came to the conclusion that this would be a good place to start. I figure this is a mic that is affordable for me but would not be grown out of.

The touch: a Behringer 1804MX. I am going to purchase a mixer of my own or I will use a DAW controller and a 4 to 8 input sound card when I get the funds to do so...

The voice: Crest 900watt amp and a set of JBL home audio speakers... I know not the best idea but I have few choices at this time...

The use: I am going to graduate High school in another semester and will be (fingers crossed) attending OU next year pursuing a strong interest in recording. For now I would like to be able to record vocal's bass/guitar... keyboard possibly... I don’t know a lot about midi but I would like to be able to use it too. I run sound for a local band and would like to record some of what they do as well as other musician friends.

Well... that’s what I have so far any input or questions would be welcome. :) Thanks Dragon for putting together such a great forum.

you plan on singing into speakers and monitoring with a mic?

lemme know how that goes! ;)

Welcome to the forum!

my advice would be to start simply, don't get hung up on gear and learn to use what you have efficiently. I have advanced leaps and bounds from where I started eight months ago and I'll I've bought was one or two mics under $200.

It sounds like the next thing you need is a prosumer sound card like you said. Hoontech, delta, aardvark, RME are all good names (some better than others).

Then, the Waves Gold bundle. (start saving for that one. :))

voice/ears...

Miles - last time I checked the voice was what I heard sound created from and the ears are what picked up the sound... :)
