What do you think of this DAW setup?

Hey Deepwater, first off, thanks for the great price on the Wharfe's. I'm looking forward to trying them out soon. About your setup, I would be careful with the us-2400, I have not personal experience with it, but I have heard of some issues with it and the automation when running it with a computer DAW setup, sorry I can't say more about it, hopefully someone else with experience could say more.

For less money you could just go with the FW-1884. It would give you all the i/o that the 1804 would give you plus a control surface. I know it doesn't have 24 faders like the 2400, but you can use the bank keys to get to the next group of 8 tracks. You always have the option of adding an fe-8 at a later time, although that would make it more expensive...

So is the FW1884 like a typical digital mixer where you have 1-16 and 27-24 and share the same faders? So I would press a bank button and the faders would move from 1 ->8 to 9 ->16, etc. Since they are moterized will they move back to their orginal location?

I don't know much about DAW recording. My current setup is a this -

Tascam DM-24
Alesis HS24
Yamaha AW16G
M-Audio 2496
Lexicon MPX500
TC M300
2x Tampas

Nope the second guess is right. The bank button would move from 1-8 to 9-16 etc etc.And Yes the faders move back to the original locations. It works great !

You should be able to use the M300 with the SPIF i/o on the 1884 as well, and you could get away with selling some of your gear (i.e. 2496) if you need to recover some of the cost of the Unit. That's what I did.

Great and how many banks do you have?

Man that US2400 would look nice setting up there. But if I can do the same thing with the FW1884 then why ( I do have the extra money to spent though). The up side with the US-2400 I can always change my hardware and have a nice control surface that could work with any setup.

I can sell my AW16G and use the FW1884 with my laptop for small moble recording.

Just give me one of each :)

No limit to the number of banks as I am using Cubase SX with it. A warning about using it with SX though - You have to run the 1884 as a Mackie Control. I know with Sonar you can run it in Native Mode. You don't really lose much by running it as a MC. I've been told that they (Frontier and Tascam) are working on a native driver as we type.

Good points though. If you do go with the 2400 and you are not happy with the pres or AD/DA on the 1804 at least you can swap out the 1804.

Another way to look at it: Buy the 1884 and a UAD-1 ! :D

I called Sweetwater and they're pushing the 002 really hard. Pretty much said that the FW1884 does not work good with any DAW - I find that hard to believe knowing Tascam. I can't see an extra 1k for the 002.

I'm still leaning hard toward the US2400 and FW1804

Checkout www.tascamforums.com. They have a dedicated section for the 2400 as well as the 1884. I think the 2400 forum is still in it's infancy but there are several 1884 users in that forum. I don't agree with Sweetwater's comments obviously as my system seems to work well. I would agree that sometimes Tascam's support leaves alot to be desired. Obviously in that forum you are going to see more issues than you will sucess stories as the forum has become a neccesity for many users IMO due to the poor support offered by Tascam.

Really though the support is my only real bitch about the product. Once I tuned my PC for audio I have really had no issues.

See you over there ! :)

Hey cool. HUI is Human User Interface I think.

I just checked my install of Cubase SX and in the list of devices that you can add the DM-24 is listed.

What software are you using with it? Will the card give you automation with the DM-24?
