what do you think about this?

Looks like a full-blown mic pre / peak limiter.

Damn, that's a good price. I'd get it for the peak limiter alone.

some people like ART products. probably more do not.

just because something has a "peak limiter" doen't mean either the preamp or the peak limiter actually sound good. As a matter of fact, few things sound as obnoxious as a crappy peak limiter.

only one way to tell: try it before buying. (Or buy it from somewhere who will let you return it if you don't like it.)

Yea, but for 60 bucks, if it sounds like crap, just wait a week for the sale to end, and ebay it for $75 and make $10 on the deal.

This isn't a $5K Stephen Paul Mod we're talking about, here, LD :D

They are OK

I have the Studio MP with the limiter and to me the limiting circuitry sounds like absolute CRAP!
Having said that... Using the MP as a tube DI for Bass Guitar sounds really good, I use it all the time in the studio and get nothing but compliments.(just don't push it too hard)

Thanks for the replys.

Let me give you my setup and see if yall can tell what to buy next.

The computer:

Athlon 1700xp processor
40gb hard drive
384 mb Ram
Running windows xp
Delta 1010lt soundcard

The software:
Cooledit pro 2.0
Various other plugins

The preamps:
The 2 on the 1010lt
Samson mixpad 12

Mics.
Shure sm48
Cheap fostex
Various mics I can borrow(sm 57's and such)

I like the sound of the samson mixer.
I need to be able to record 8 tracks at a time for drums.
As you can see I only have 6 I can do right now.
So would it be good to go on and get the audiobuddy or to get the Art preamp and wait on a preamp for the 8th cahnnel.
Thanks in advance, Matt

That last post I also ment to ask what the difference in quality between the Art preamp and the audiobuddy was?
Thanks in advance, Matt

they will sound pretty different

the art preamp is a "toob" preamp that adds "warmth and fatness" to a signal.

usually in the way of some distortion. not bad for some uses.

i used to own one of the ART levelars... and really it wasnt that bad. in retrospect i probably should not have sold it. i liked it for vocals (i never record very high fi vocals).

anyway, i bet your current preamps and the art preamp have very similar solid state circuits. but i really dont know. the only difference being the "tooob" stage which will provide only a few db.

you might want to get it, i think it would be good for lo fi vocals, i would love to run a drum machine through it to see if it sounded cool...
