i am micing a drum set with the following:

sm57- snare
apex 125 - kick
apex 190 - over heads (2)

and its running in to a peavey mixer and out into a motu mk3

i do have room for 4 more mics but the drummer has 6 toms so i figure maybe even 3 overheads might be better for me?

well wondering if theres anything i should cnahge in this list

that should work great....the key to getting the sound will be your positioning choices.....those overheads will be the key....take as long as you need placing those overheads and you'll be very happy.......

if you wanna mic the toms, Radio Shacks here were closing out the 33-3032's for $14.97 and they make decent tom mics.......

cool thanks..

i ended up getting two apex 190's, an apex 125 and one more sm57 (my freind and i wanted to try double micing the snare ie top and bottom) and an apex 430..

should be fun!

Just my opinion but I would've added a large diaphram condensor to stick out in front of your kit as a fill mic. This can REALLY fatten a kit up. Seeing as you obviously have a line on Apex mics, something like a 420 would work in that application.

actually i made a mistake i own the 420 insted of the 430.. i think the 420 is the cheaper version.. you say it should be like a "room" mic?

The 430 is the cheeper mic (cardiod only where the 420 is cardiod or omni). Not a room mic, at only 3' out in front of the kick it catches the overall kit butreally reinforces the kick. A dynamic mic inside the kick will capture the attach and the LDC out in front gets the body of the sound.
