Why you gotta be so mean?
On guitar and snare drum? Compared to the i5 and regular 57?

I use it for live double bass performances. It does well on guitar live. That said, in the studio I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to find something that sounded more interesting.

Thank you, I'm really curious what people think of it vs. the i5 and regular 57.

I haven't used these on snare. I like the beta 57 better than the sm57 on guitar amps, and probably better than the I5, too. (I tend to use ribbon mics now in preference to all those).

The beta 57 grill comes off, and a standard 58 grill ball fits nicely in its place - that's kind of cool.

Thanks, for the info. Has anyone compared the three of a snare?

I have used all three many times on snare. Generally, I prefer the beta 57a. Better crack on the snare, better hi hat rejection, more focused 200hz fundamental. Regular 57's work just fine on snare, but pick up a little more hat. With a regular 57 vs a beta 57 on snare in particular, I do not notice as much of the typical sm57 shortcomings (harsh or raspy highs, looser lows). On vocals however the differences between a beta 57a and an sm57 are much greater. The I5 is quite a different mic. Few things to me sound "bad" with proper use of an sm57, but with the Audix I5 things seem very different. I do not know what it is, but I5's seem to either work very well on things, or just not very well at all, whereas the typical sm57 seems to always work about the same. Rarely the best, but never really bad. Before someone wonders whether or not the I5 I have used might be defective, I have used at least 2 dozen different I5's over the past few years and always found the same to be true.

Thank you that helped alot. If you could choose two to have witch ones would they be?

I would probably choose the beta 57a and the I5. I personally don't find the I5 quite as versatile, but I also feel as if the beta57 and the sm57 are fairly interchangeable. Like I mentioned before, the I5 doesn't seem quite as versatile as far as how often it suits the job, but when it fits it really fits pretty well.
