What do you guys like for fx units/pedals/etc?

Hi Guys.

I am a composer who is getting back into electric guitar playing (it's been a while =-). A lot of what I do needs to sound very contemporary. My clients sometimes want something that sounds like Blink 182 on one day, and then Norah Jones the next day.

The pedal board I have sounds pretty dated (Digitech RP10), but I liked the fact that it had so many standard fx. Stuff like reverb, delay, cruncy distortion, chorusy clean sounds, etc.

Is there any particular unit you guys recommend for getting fresher sounds right out of the box? I'm not much of a tweaker, and would prefer something that has some nice presets already.

Thanks so much for your help!

Since you have a Digitech product and if you don't mind sticking with them I have had good luck with the RP200 but it is not rack mount..

What are you wanting to spend?
Are wanting something Rackable?

Hi Scott.

My only complaint about the DigiTech unit I have is that it is noisy. Even with the gate on, I need to edit out the noise once it is bounced to disk. I am not necessarily looking for something rackmounted. I don't really care. Cost is flexible, but I was thinking between $500-$1000.

Seems like every guitarist I know has a Pod from Line 6. Any thoughts on this unit? I will check out the DigiTech 200 in the meantime-- thanks for the recommendation!

I guess I am hoping to find an all-in-one kind of box that can generate most of the sounds necessary for contemporary rock. Maybe it's a futile thought. =-) What would be cool is if it had a MIDI port so I could control it from my sequencer. Cool, but not required.

Well I don't have any personal experience with the POD but with a budget like that someone will recommend something that will fit!

Checkout if the Roland (not BOSS) pedal board uses the same VS COSM as the Recording Workstations. You will love the amp modelers and EFX. The reverb is to die for and the delays and chorus are all completly stereo. I think the expensive one is a grand.

I have a RP200 and even though I like the flexability, it too is very noisy. I have a friend that has a battery powered Zoom (almost the same setup as the RP 200) and it is not near as noisy as the DiGitech.

Good luck in your search

Careful, my friend. You are about to stir up a hellfire storm of controversy the likes of which you have never seen. :D

Do a search and you will find a plethora of opinions on the POD. Trust me.
