I was thinking about getting that board it looks very nice and effecient and at a considerable price for 16 digital tracks
any comments on it ?

I've got the VM-04 digital four channel mixer. I like it a lot.
Fostex prices are lower than the rest, and yet quality seems high.
I'm sure some will disagree.

Thanks GT, I like the look of it and the price also, I just wanted to get an opinion on it. The VS2480 was in my book for a while, then the price made me (HURL) .
The VM200, 20 x 8 buss, exactly what I have now, just in analog
form, adat transfer 8 at a time, spdif transfer 2 at a time (wish it was another adat) but that's cool. 4 xlr outputs
(scratching my chin) doesnt sound like a bad deal
though I have 24 channel ADAT -(oh!) I could just transfer 8 at a time through the lightpipe (sorry just caught myself)

Right now I am only using it as a combination mic pre, and FX for vocals and acoustic.
This is my first processor, so its hard for me to be objective about the FX, But they seem to sound very good. I am basically just sticking with the reverb, as I use a Pod for my electric.
I really like the fact that this is digital, never half to worry about dirty potentiometers.
I got the VM04 from Musican's Friend for $100.00. To me that seems like an absolute steal!
Excuse my ignorance, but what's a DAW?
Any more questions, I would be happy to answer.

I havent really heard what I was looking for, but I found a great deal on the VM200, and I will get one today. 20 x 8 buss aint bad for the price I'm getting it at.
More than likely I will use it for vocals, instead using adat, the virtual tracks will make recording vocals easier, and I can sync it to Cubase.
With each usage I will let you guys know how well the machine works, being it has been discontinued, if it's great, you will have missed out, the price is $500 --- but I got it cheaper than that, and it's brand spanking new out the box. I thought about getting (2) but I love my analogue board --which is FOSTEX also

Cool, keep us updated. Sounds like you got a great deal. I have been eyeing the cheaper fostex mixers and if you can get it to sync with Cubase I just may have to buy one.

It's syncs via (MIDI)
set Cubase to certain channel
set VM200 to same exact channel, and vwala.
As I've used it on some of my older mixes, it's cool, the effect board, DSP, EQ, it has like 50 presets, it has one I really like--
the one that makes you sound like your on a phone call---
for vocals it's cool.
The efficiency, very simple to use, ONLY thing that it lacks FOR ME, and only ME, is that it only goes optical ADAT 1 time, I have 24 channel, so I can only hear back 8 that's it, as suppose to listening to all 24. So I kept all 24 in the analog board
routed my synths to the digital mixer, so when tracking I can route it directly to the adat, and listen back on the analogue board.
Very easy to use out the box I must say, I had the 01V one time, but it didnt perform as well, also the manual was like Encripted Piglatin, so for me, and only ME, I like it, it's dope, thinking about getting another one, for at least 16 track transfer, and have 40 tracks to work with ----Ooooooooooohhhhh hooo hooo ha ha ha ha ha haha haha (mad scientist laugh)

sorry almost forgot, you need a midi interface
VM200 (in & out) to INTERFACE (in & out)
from there go inside your interfaces setup (I have MOTU Express XT) go in route it were it needs to be and boom.
Then go to cubase, hit SYNC twice, it asks MTC, MMC, ASIO, ASIO/MMC --- which ever one you use click on it, then set the frame rate ---usually 30fps---
then you can use either cubase or the VM200 for transport control
PLAY, STOP, REW, FF, etc...
