What do I connect the 5-pin DIN Midi output to?

Ok, here's where I'm at. I just installed the sound card (M-Audio AudioPhile 2496), and also just installed the software (Cakewalk Music Creator Pro) and I'm trying to familiarize myself with how to use the software. I'm in the first lesson. I realize when I play the first lesson exercise that it's outputting to that 5-pin DIN Midi output plug. That's why I'm not hearing anything. I've connected my regular PC sound speakers up to the RCA R & L Analog outputs using conversion plugs to convert the 2 RCA output jacks to a single mini-plug female and than plugged the male mini for the PC speakers into it. But now, What do I do to hear the Output that I will be working with using the Cakewalk software? It seems to be designed to output the signals thru the Midi output. What do you connect that 5-pin Midi plug to? -to get started just to hear the output that you are working with? I'm sure somebody knows what I'm asking here. thanx in advance for any advice. dmc

the rca outputs should play your audio back.

MIDI does not transport audio. It is simply a way to transport information. It was originally designed to allow digital equipment to communicate with each other. Midi would be used for things like triggering drum samples, or playing a keyboard and having the sound come out of a synthesiser. MIDI simply sends data, and your speakers need to be hooked up to the rca outs. If that is not working, there is a setting wrong somewhere in your computer. Did you disable your old soundcard, and set it so that your audio will come out of the m-audio? Someone else can explain how to do this, I do not know how.

Good luck.
