I appreciate your thoughts, C7. And your opinion on my credibility (not to mention my hairless ass) is well-noted.

But again, I'm having trouble seeing what it has to do with proximity effect. :D

What's your thoughts on the subject of proximity effect, C7?

I think your proximity to CPU's and BBS's has had a very negative effect on you.

How's that?

Read Harvey's big thread. IIRC proximity effect was covered pretty well in there.

Here's a tip from the bigtime pros......... for more proximity effect, step closer to the mic.

For less proximity effect, back off!
Well, I said I did understand what proximity was. I was curious as to WHY, which (I double checked now to be sure) is not covered in the big thread.

Besides it is pretty unhelpfull to answer questions with 'it is somewhere in the (26 page long) sticky thread'.

Well, I hope we helped you a little before this thread got hijacked and turned into trash.

Take care....... I'm out of here.

Actually the other article made it clearer. Give it a look

Sound waves emit radially from the source like pebbles in a pond. Far enough away the waves are essentially parallel. Close up there is still curvature to the waves so the waves do not strike the whole diaphram at the same time, and that this effect is greater with the low freqency waves because they are wider. That explains why low frequencies and why up close. it also makes sense why large diameter microphones have a much more pronounced effect as well as why it varies based on pattern.

I hope things are back on topic, as it seems they are at this point?

It is true. Flaming is for the Cave; although we're ALL guilty of doing it right in the thread, usually, pretty much killing the thread, several times. So I think it can be seen why flaming is prefered in the Cave.
