So I'm going to start some home recordings. I need to choose between the Alesis MultiMix 8USB or the Presonus Audiobox. They're both pretty much the same price. I know I can only record 2 tracks at once with both of these but this is fine because I am a 1 man band and plan on using the 'recorderman' technique for drums. My questions:

What can I do with the other 8 channels on the Alesis?

Are there advantages to having a mixer over just an interface?

Which would you suggest?

thanks!

If the mixer and interface both have only 2 channels out, then I'd take the mixer over the interface. If you have a 8x2 mixer, you can plug in 8 things and leave em plugged in, instead of switching mics and/or cables every time you change instruments. And if you ever have the need for a standalone mixer for a little PA or something, you have one. Mute or turn the faders all the way down on the channels you aren't using, pan the 2 channels you're recording hard L/R, and record 2 channels at once. The multimix doesnt have inserts, but I beleive it has an aux or 2, so you can get an additional headphone or monitor mix out of it. You wouldn't get that with a 2 channel interface. You'd also have some EQ ability with the mixer. In fact, IDK why anyone ever buys 2 channel interfaces when mixers have more features and are more convenient.
