What are your thoughts on this mix?

Here's an instrumental mix of a song I've been working on for some friends of mine. It's my first run at any type of real recording as far as micing the drums and all that, so i'm trying to see where my progress is and what could be better with the mix. There are 5 more songs that are in the process of being recorded, but this is my first one. I'd like to know what's up with it so the next ones will be better the first time around. Anyway, what do you guys think?

If this is a first go at recording drums I think it's pretty good. Drums are something I'm working on at the moment and I'd be pleased with this. personally I'd like to hear a touch more top end on the cymbals and snare. There's a couple of times when the off-beat tom hit on the main beat seems a little off, time wise, but a nifty cut and paste could fix that.
 
Something doesn't sit right with me on that mix - might be because the guitars are so spread out int he stereo field but the drums seem to be.. IDK - it's not bad at all, sounds clean, just something about the drums in the mix bugs me... maybe somebody else can identify it. They might just need to be a little louder?
 
The drums simply need to be played harder physically. Tell your drummer to do some pushups because the song is great!

Hmmm.. I feel like he smacks em pretty hard already, but either way, is that something that might be remedied with a bit of punchy compression or something? It's just that the drum recordings are what we have now, so i guess i have to rely a bit more on processing...

Well either he smacks them really hard and you have some attack/release work to do on your compressor or (most likely) "smacking hard" doesn't reallty mean smacking HARD:



Now I don't know about the BBC rack, but that is how drums should sound like to my ears.
