what are you focus on ?

sorry I am not that good at English ... I am from Denmark. But I hope you understand my question :
When you are mixing, what have your intentions ? ....I hope you understand

Morten

Morten,

When mixing, your intentions are to have a well balanced mix with all the instrument and voice tracks blending yet having there own seperate spot in the mix.....
Actenuating the things that you want to be more noticed than others and blending the elements that you want to use to form a nice base...
The stereo field placement of individual tracks and addition of effects are also things that are attended to in the final mix....

(I made that as summarized and short as possible...)

Beautifully said.....you have to make sure every track is doing what you want it to do, and where you want it to do it....make sure every track can be heard, whether it be a major component (louder) or a minor one (softer)...

Yo Morten: [You don't sell salt do you?}

If I am doing a vocal, I want to focus on getting the vocal UP FRONT of the mix; I also want to make sure the reverb isn't over done; I sometimes like to tinker with the pans and see if the left/right of some tracks enhance the vocal.

Ahhh, if I could only use the mics that Sinatra got to use.

Merry Christmas,
Green Hornet:D ;) :p

Now for that Sinatra thing......... I just think its a shame autotune wasn't around in his time :D :D

Mixing - my primary and first concern is to ensure that every component of a mix has its own "space to live" in the frequency spectrum, so it doesn't have to fight for attention with anything else.

Yes, without any further ratiocination, I agree with you.

Every track is important; however, I like to make some tracks more important.

somebody was teaching me that mixing is placing sounds in that 3 dimensional box using pan and reverb and delay techniques. It seems to work well.

we all look into it too much. get it to sound like music...the rest is all the little details.

maybe.
