What are some means of transporting sessions to the studio?

I guess this is the proper forum to post this question. I was just wondering what would be the best way to bring my recordings to the studio from my DAW to master without loosing any of the quality. I have heard people say storing sessions on CD-RW's are the best way to go about it but maybe I misunderstood what they were saying because I thought that CD's only held 16 bit 44.1khz audio or is that all they need to master. I don't mean to post a question that sounds stupid but I guess a beginner has got to learn somewhere. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

The dreaded "it depends" answer. Are you wanting to take a stereo mix somewhere for mastering or the multitrack to a studio for mixing? Also, if you already have an idea of which facility you'd like to go to in either case, call them and ask what format they can deal with and what do they prefer. For mixed, stereo stuff, more than likely they can handle either 24 bit wave or AIFF files.

Well i'm sort of new to all of this but I want what ever I need to get the best quality mastering out of my material. I'm guessing thats a seperately recorded multitrack session. I'm going to take your advice and call some local studios and see what format they prefer but I was thinking maybe if it all was recorded on a external ultra wide scsi hard drive maybe I could bring it into the studio and master it from there. Is this a common practice maybe i'll talk to them about it. But then a hard drive isn't going to hold everything I record so I still need something to store my sessions in without any loss of quality. Any Info.
