What an Idiot.

I second that!

There are lots of musicians who are cool. There are also a lot of musicians who are spoiled, rotten babies. If I saw this guy in person, I'd tell him what a douchebag he is, and could only hope that he'd take a swing at me.

If he were my kid...aw, he'd get a break for busting a 325. One less in the world.

Otherwise, he's an idiot.

So, I guess the band does folk ballads?

That's not far from me, what an idiot, some of the mates were saying ACDC's sound was shit at the Glasgow gigs too.

When I can afford something "vintage" [and not just old], I will give two shits.

He got what he deserved- no longer the pleasure of playing his favorite guitar. Appropos.

If I'd busted a guitar every time I was unhappy with the sound........

I could count on one hand the times I've actually been happy with it.

What a fucktard.

Looks a lot like my ES-150 D from that era. I wonder if that nimrod had a clue of what he had.

I'd never heard of him before but it's obvious after watching the video that he's a poser. They could have turned his amp off completely and nobody would have noticed. I've seen drunks on karaoke night sing way better than that loser. It's really sad what passes for talent these days.

Pete in Melody Maker:

“I smashed up two guitars at the end of the show, because one I was using had recently been repaired and broke as I came on stage, so I played another one I use for recording. At the end, I though, ‘What the hell,’ and smashed them both. The Gibson Stereo cost £200 and the amps, which were borrowed, will cost about £20 each to repair. I can’t put it down to tax because when I say I use 70 guitars a year, they don’t believe me.”

The funny thing about Townshend...

was that he smashed up a lot of SG's and Strats, but 've never seen him smash up a Les Paul. He also did this, not because he was pissed off, but he thought it was art
The classic is watching Jeff Beck smash up his guitar in "Blow Up". Cool scene...strange movie.

I don't know, sometimes smashing a guitar has some merit if it's part of the theatrics of performing. It can pay for the cost of the instrument many times over in publicity, and for whatever reason, audiences love a good smashing. How many Takamines did Garth Brooks smash?

I guess it was around '77 when the band I had decided to pool some money and get a pawn shop electric, some Italian piece of shit with like four pickups. Anyway, we put the word out and the club was packed. Come smashing time I found it was a lot harder than I though to get it to break up...next time I found a turned over mic stand (they all had round bases then) worked well as something that would break the body. After that we went to acoustics because using the mic stand technique would send wood all over the place, and they were just a lot easier to smash. In all, maybe a half dozen or so.... it was fun I have to admit.

All that said, smashing a vintage guitar is incredibly stupid.

No offense to the UK meant there Legion, he was just dissing American audiences. He's right, we don't appreciate wankers here either.

Oh, and Pete never really thought of it as art. He accidently stuck his headstock through a low ceiling tile at one show and the crowd went crazy. He discovered the more shit he smashed, ther more attention he and the band got. It's was really more of a marketing stragedy than an artistic statement.

When the NASCAR driver (Busch?) got a custom Les Paul as a perk for winning a race in Nashville, he destroyed it.

I guess when you're a young millionaire, you take it for granted that you can take something someone else has labored over and tear it up (come to think of it, that's exactly what they do with their cars). For those of us who work for their guitars, it was offensive.

I think it was childish, and says reams for his character.
