I am trying to punch in with Cubase and when I do it, I can either only hear my input or just what was recorded. I want to be able to play along with what I recorded, so when it hits the punch in spot it feels smoother. If I turn the little monitor switch on the guitar track I am recording, I can only hear my drum tracks, not the previously recorded guitar on the same track I am punching into. If I shut the monitor switch off, well then I can hear my recorded guitar, but not my input.

How do you do this in cubase?

record the new part on to a clean audio track the just move it up after.

Punching In

What audio interface are you using ?, I use an M-audio Firewire Solo and unless I enable the " 1/2" "ana 1/2 in" I will not hear what I am recording while I am recording it.

In order to hear the track when you punch in, you have to use a second track, with cubase, when you record on the same track the playback is muted. Depending on your audio interface, you might be able to monitor using the interface.
