Yea im trying to soundproof a portion of my basement and im going to do the ceiling first.

OK my plan (hope its right)---
First----------felt paper
Second ------R19 insolation...
Third----------Styrofoam sheets ( 7-to8-inches thick)
Fourth--------sheetrock
Last-----------Carpet over sheetrock...

Ok now that ,,, thats explained

Question 1------Will Styrofoam sheets soundproof well.
Question 2------How well will they proof,(80%-90% maybe?)

Thanks for reading guys ,,,, this board iz my only hope ... all of my knowledge that iv have of recording has come from this board............................................laterz

Styrofoam is actually very reflective, acoustics wise.

If you were to shred it into little tiny pieces, such as 1/4" balls (or there abouts), then it would absorb some of the mids and lows, but it can rattle.

Studiofoam, specifically designed for acoustics would be your best bet.

Styro...any foam, is a conductor of sound and an insulator of temperature only. One of the worse products there is for sound transmission
