...while he's still young!!!!

It is a question that has alluded me even after reading all those "informative" novels on the subject.

Fact is that I am ready now, I produce/record/write/mix/master at what I have been told is a professional level. So why am I not getting anywhere?

The answer is that I have absolutely no connections, hell, I don't even know how to get my shit on the radio!

If anyone knows of a way that I can get some real, non-internet exposure(without stalkin anyone just to get them to listen to my shit) please let me know!

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

well Atillah I see you live in VA........ So, here's my advice....Teddy Riley you should know who he is....... has his Production studio in va beach........

go work for free.......get in the door.....and network

be your own label

If you have some songs that have been mixed down and mastered, the next thing to do would be for you to take about a grand or so and send your songs off to a pressing plant. For that amount you should be able to get your artwork and 500 to 1000 CDs burnt up. Then you push them the best way you know how.
That way if you sell all your copies you've made all the money, instead of a small percentage. I know it sounds small time, but most labels don't really look at you unless you have sold at least 10,000 units or have some kind of connect.
Once you have your product packaged, its gonna have a bar code, thats how they track your record sales. Think along the lines of consignment, independent distributors, or out-of-the-trunk sales. As for as promotion, radio and videos can get you alot of recognition but it costs to get on. Club promotion is the next best thing.

A surefire way for a beginner...

Do like I do.Be your own boss. You already got the tools you produce/mix/record/master.Did this move...The cost efficeint way for a beginner....Record yourself a bangin ass CD.Get the 22.cent CD-R and pass out 100's of them -word of mouth-.Then approach all of your local record stores.Consign with them.Sell it for 10$.They keep 3-4.Print yourself up some posters/flyers and pass them alllllllll across town and include which stores your CD is located.Invest in a website.Sell your CD from your site and other internet distributors "cdstreet, cdbaby".Give your CD to DJ in the club.Dj do be willing to play shyt.especially when it bangin.Theirs a saying that goes "IF YOU BUILD IT,THEY WILL COME".This is just a brief summary of what to do.Work hard at it and it will work.If you need additional info.Holla back..Also check out my site www.clubhouserecords22.com .I got hella figgaz sitting off in the bank.......1

My man throws parties in his crib, or rents places. Soon enough he had local radio station DJs showin up at his parties so he could just pass a CD. ..... Too bad they wanted him to pay too. But you can pay the DJs to play your stuff on the radio. Just ask Cross Studio. If you do shows, that's an opening. If you got lot's of artists with integrity, you have all the talent you need to do a show.

But Mannish was right about putting money into advertising yourself, aaaaall over the place. Book yourself on them small cable access shows so them underground cats and their girlfriends can see you. I did that and had cats walkin up to me for two years after that, even little kids like, "I saw you on TV!"

Even if cats don't really know you, after awhile they gon lie like, "yeah, I heard that shit on the radio, but I ain't know who it was... 88.9 right?" Wrong, but pass them a promotional copy anyway :D :D

Oh yeah,cable acces shows

That gotta also be one the supreme ways to get exposure FREE..I've got 1 of my affiliated to attent the 2 week training coarse and we did a 1 hour show based on our rap scene in our city and our label....shyyttttt,you sholuda seen how sells started coming in after we did that.If you have the right connects you can be able to reach cities beyond...Keep in mind that this is a free service and use it.I highly recomment usage of the free cable access showsWe'e in the process of finna go at it again.........GREAT EXPOSURE...MM&H 88.9 lol,,you best believe it
