the wharf's are good for us broke bastud's! what do the rich boys think?

gearheads&monitors

i was just asking about some different monitors for nearfields.
we all know, and how, the Wharfs8.2A are the sht at $300 range.

Passive DYNAUDIO BM5's are not that much more than Wharfedales.
B&W DM303 (from the infamous SOS article-HiFi vs Nearfield)...
i just picked up a pair for $150. out of curiousity.
...so if they translate & sound good, in addition to the Sound on Sound"technical article"...cool....i don't have waterfall plots at the house.

My RAM monitors work, but cause ear bleed in like 3hrs..

The ADAM's at $375 ea...maybe mix in MONO for awhile and save up for the other one?

I appreciate the Higher End comparisons/inputs,
especially from those that
have gone from the beginner levels, to the $200 range, to the "GOOD CHEAP STUFF" range, to the mid....and then hi end stuff

The "Good Cheap Stuff" like the the Wharfs, the DMP3, the RNC, the SP-B1...
(usually derived from Pro's inputs).

How can one say "this is a good monitor!" if they've never fhkng heard anything better or had the opportunity???

I can say my RAM's were good enough for me not to buy the RP8's, only because I tested them..but not a big enough change to buy.

thats what i'm searchin for...that "wow!!" upgrade sht...

like a mic and preamp...the speakers and room go hand in hand.

wharfies were my first pair of studio monitors and they did great for what they were... but ive always thought they were a weak link in my chain (especially in the bass department) and that is why i have a new pair of dynaudio bm5as coming in a couple of days.

it is a sizable investment but i think in the end, being able to hear my mixes more accurately and clearly will be far worth it... and unless i somehow move into some studio with a much larger control room, i dont see myself having to upgrade these babies for quite some time.

I would love to hear what you think after workingon the Dynaudio's for a bit. I would also like to know what the original poster ended up doing. I hope the BM5's give you enough low end for now. I have never actually used the BM5's, but have heard from some other trusted sources that the low end on them amazed them for such a small and affordable monitor.

Pick up the new issue of "TapeOp" to see one (actually two) of the most positive reviews of a monitor that I've seen in that mag--for the Dyna BM5. If I recall, the only criticism dropped into the sea of praise is that the BM5 might sound "too clear" for some applications. The matching sub is reviewed highly, too, although it's not seen as a necessity with the solid low end of these speakers. I'm generalizing here and suggest anyone interested pick up the mag to learn more. All in all, the reviews are so positive that I'm considering selling the house to pick up a pair.

The only thing I can contribute is that I have heard a great many good things about the BM6As from a variety of reliable sources.

Should be a solid investment.

I'm lacking in the preamp department, I currently use FMR, I have the 002 which converters I do not like and would like to pick up a decent 2 channel A/D for. I'm fine in the mic department.

I see many people considering the Dyn passives and I'm sure they are great but the real question would be are they THAT much greater then the Wharfs? I like what I've read on the Wharfs translating to outside systems nicely. I've recently worked wit the Yorkville and was not overly impressed with them, to me they sounded like a beefed up powered NS-10.
First, I currently use BM6A's and I love them. The 8.2's are pretty nice for the price too. It comes down to whether you want the best monitors you can afford or if you want to get more pre's / A/D converters... IMHO, the 002 has 4 focusrites and thats about the best you get from a non standalone pre. You should wait on more pres (unless you need more than 4 for tracking..) and get a high quality set of monitors. If you need the extra power(100w/speaker) do the 6a's but if you want to save a little cash and still get great sound go for the 5a's or Adam a7's(both 50w/speaker). That depends on the size of your room.

am i the only person with enough balls to admit that i was wrong? :D
