for around 275, i can get a pair of active wharfdales from deepwater here. or, i have found somewhere else that i can get event 2020s and a hafler ta1600 for 300. which would you go for?
I have the Wharfedales, and I don't have any experiance with the events. I really like the Wharfedales, they're not hyped and they translate VERY well. It's almost like you're cheating when you're mixing, it's so easy. Also they're cheaper than the events, so that's another plus. I highly reccomend them, and I don't think you can go wrong with them. Even if you get them and hate them, you're only out 300 bucks, and you can probably get at least that much back on ebay.
I've got the opposite problem, no exposure to the Wharf's, but love my Event's. Just to confuse you (LOL), I'd spend the extra $25. You'd still have the Hafler even if you don't like the 2020's..

I don't know if my vote counts but I had a pair of Event PS5's and hated them. I had better luck with my pioneer bookshelf speakers when mixing. Now I have the Wharfedales and KRK RP8s and I prefer my wharfedales over the KRK.
the 8.1 has a five inch woofer, while the 8.2 has a 6.5, you probably need a 6.5 inch, unless you are mixing in a refrigerator, then you might be able to get enough bass out of them.
