Hey everyone,

I discovered something pretty odd about my monitors today. They are plugged into completely differtent outlets from my computer's printer but when i print something and they are on...I hear the noises that the printer is making thru the speakers...not that it is really that big of a deal...but what the hell is that?

thanks

James

My cell phone does it

Hi,

Whenever I'm about to get a call my speakers make a noise. Sometimes it rings and I get a call. Sometimes no ring. I don't know if they hung up or something else in the phone is making the speakers talk.

I think it's called electronic interference. Like somebody's CB radio coming through on your TV.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

RFI - Radio Frequency Interference. In your case probably coming from the soleniods and motors used to drive the print head on your printer back and forth and to activate the ink jets that squirt the ink.

Now that we know the cause I think the obvious next question is how to stop it.

For me it would be turn the cell phone off or other offending device while recording. And I think any other solution would be costly at best.

When I first set up my desk, I had the wireless router next to the left monitor, and it would make a clicking sound, even if the volume on the monitor was all the way down. Damn radio waves are EVERYWHERE!

yeah my cell phone makes noises on my speakers when it's about to ring. i wonder if those just show up on the speakers, or if they would show up on a recording too. like maybe if i was recording a bass track and the phone started ringing. hmmm...
