That beats my day, gotta get stuff ready for PO, then a bit of the second job, then a board meeting (the ballet is coming! :eek:), then another meeting :(

I have 7 U47's and I found them quite heavy when placed in a bag together...did you ascertain this at your important Sony job aligning their microphones for meetings and making coffee?

...the new 2003A may have a contender for the low-end king...Karma Audio has just released their new "Prophecy" LDC mic...also very much in the U87-type category...I have requested a demo for testing...I will post sound files and pics once we receive the mic...should be interesting...the Prophecy is being introduced at a low introductory price of just $119 (with shockmount and flight case), direct from Karma's website:

Looks like an M-Audio Nova. I wonder if the circuit is the same? Post pics if you can when you get it.

...BTW, Michael Joly is offering his support for a little "Low-End" mic comparison by sending me one of his stock 2003A mics...Thanks Michael!

...the tentative candidates for these vocal sessions are:
1. MXL 2003A (new champion?)
2. Oktava MK 319 (a perennial low-end favorite)
3. MXL V67G Stock (a "reigning" champion)
4. MXL V67G Modded (original capsule & transformer...a champ "on steroids")
5. Rode NT2 (a former retired champ..."used" cost is similar to the V67G/2003A cost range)
6. Avantone CK 7 (in cardioid pattern/equivilent to less costly CK6)
7. MXL 2001 Modded (inexpensive mod option)

My 2003A is doing intermittent noise (like vinyl crackle) when the hi-pass filter switch is engaged. Any idea what it could be ?
It works totally fine when the low cut is not engaged.

The low cut switch seems to be connected to pads A and B, who then go to C4 R3 R9 and the following transistor...

...just a quick "Low-End Mic" shootout update...we have done the preliminary setup, and we are now waiting on the final two mic submissions...hopefully we will be up and running next week...test recordings have already yielded some interesting results...we will be running the 8 mics thru a Focusrite Platinum Octopre into a Nuendo-4 based DAW...mics are setup in a professionally soundtreated vocal booth for superior isolation...running the session will be respected pro-audio engineer Kevin Miller (John Legend/Mariah Carey/currently running the big board SSL at Hit Factory Criteria, Miami FL for producer Danja, Timbaland's protege)...
