I've had NT for a few months now, I'd been able to mix with vegas in it, but when ever I tried to record, i'd get the blue screen of death after about 90 seconds. I tweaked the virtual memory, set it real high, set it real low.... same thing basically. I was screwing around tonite and I got it tweaked!
I set the minimum to what NT recomended, 138, and the max to double my actual memory, 256. IN 98 I'd always set them the same. This just works so I guess I'll leave it be. (until I get some more memory)
NT's pretty awkward, but I'm stuck with it. Can't run 2000 for different colflicting reasons, and I'd like to use my dual processors. Wow, I'm stoked, I don't have to record in 98, then move over to NT to mix if I need more processing power. Plus it's cool cuz the only things I have loaded in NT are Vegas and my plugins. :) but...

Are there anymore tweaks I should know about?

hmm....

A blue screen in NT is much more serious than a blue screen in 9x. It typically indicates a hardware/driver problem. I'm happy to hear that adjusting your virtual memory settings helped, but this certainly must be an isolated case....and I hope that it truely is fixed for you!

I've played with Vegas a bit and have found it to be pretty iffy. Have you tried other software? Are you still trying to use the Wave card and the Delta card at the same time?

Good to hear that you're up & running!

Slackmaster 2000

dangit!

Well I got a few more blue screens last night. Once while recording (I was dumping some analog stuff so no big problem, rewind, reboot, hit play again.) and once while mixing. The problem is certaintly much better than before, but I'm not completly free of hassles. Some more testing, maybe I can be more confident with it.

I'm not running the GL and the Delta together in NT. I don't want to open than can of worms yet. Works flawlessly in 98, but the GL NT drivers seem dodgy in themselves.

yeah some new software would'nt be a bad thing. Give me Neuendo anyday! I have an earlier version of Cubase, that won't work in NT or 2000. Havent tried Sonor but Cakewalk definitly isn't my bag. Guess I'll give N-track another whirl one of these days....

James HE,

Those Bluse Screens of Death (BSOD) can really be annoying. However, they usually contain a good bit of information. As I am sure you are aware they can read some thing to the effect of:

STOP 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0x80118bf4, 0x00000000, 0x00000074)

From what I understand, make note of that error and then try searching the Microsoft support site for the various hex numbers in the error: http://support.microsoft.com

Quite often this will provide us good results at my work. Then again, quite often it doesn't ;) But hey... it's worth a shot, no?

Also, go ahead and post the error. I'd be interested in doing a little research :)

Wow, thanks lunatic! I'll defitly do that.

I usually just ignore the message, like i know what all that BS means.

I hope it never happens again though.... ;)

Hey, always happy to help.

Just remember that the only important part is the initial message and the hex numbers inside the parenthesis (). All the other cr@p is simply what programs, drivers, etc, are loaded into memory and at what address.

There is a website that you, and others, may find useful. A lot of the tips/hacks on the site are more specific to NT in the corporate environment but every now and then you find something good. For example, NT may not be properly recognizing all of your L2 cache. Check it out:

http://www.jsiinc.com/suba/tip0300/rh0301.htm

Also, I did a search on http://www.google.com (I love that search engine) for NT performance tips and came up with a many hits. They appear to be good but I haven't tried them yet. Here are two that looked worth checking out:

http://www.pureperformance.com/
http://www.elementkjournals.com/ewn/9905/ewn9951.htm

Have fun!
