So I've been on this quest for a few or a couple of mics. And man this rabbit hole just keeps getting deeper.
I've narrowed my selection to 85 microphones.:D(not really)
I've narrowed it down to this.

Damn, all this Chinese food talk is making me hungry....

Ahhh, can't..... work.... must ..... eat.......

BTW, I would like to have Combo 3 with fried rice please.... :):D

How will you use your meal? Together with your musician friends? On your own, or just you and that special man.

What music would you like with it? Richard Claydermann? Phony restaurant famous classical music themes on flute in the most strange instrumentation you can imagine, but hardly any dynamics? Or an annoying pop radio station with commercials every 5 minutes?

I think that the newer C-1's do have a pad and a high pass filter?

At the risk of sounding dumb, what's a MXL 306, and does it come with fried rice?

It's a chopped up MXL603, you can get it with fried or white rice. It also includes a free fortune cookie.

Sorry Guys it was late when I wrote that. I did say MXL 306's I edited it though.

As far as I know the Studio Projects C1 does not have any switches.

This is a difficult choice. Have any of you worked with the MXL V93M and the C1? Is there a huge difference?

Yea, I used to own a C1, but sold it last year. I now own a v93. I like it better, but that's just my personal taste. Now I understand the C1 comes with a bass rolloff switch and a -10 db pad, so now I'd say it's a more difficult choice as to which one I would give the edge to. The v93 is certainly more neutral-sounding and to me sounds good on just about everything. The C1 does, too, so flip a coin. The 93 is cheaper and comes with a shockmount so that's definitely points in it's favor.

You could, but you'd only have to give $30-50 right back to him for a shockmount.

It's funny, on vocals there hasn't been a need for a shockmount for
myself and also a friend of mine that has a local studio when he uses
similar microphones. I guess everybody's noise "floor" is different!

P.S. chessrock, do you play chess too?
If you do, do you think Fischer or Kasparov was the greatest player?

Well Chess, confusious say..you not know enough about B Series to make that comment...:D

The B Series uses a unique isolation suspension inside the mic. The capsule is free floating and isolated from the top plate and body. No one is doing this, and you do not need the shockmount. The design is every bit as good as good as an external mount in isolating vibrations.

Hmmm...that's pretty slick! Wonder how long it'll take for that idea to gain a following from the other manufacturers....though the new "lollipop" mike from Audix seems to suspend the capsule in the head by means of elastic bands...SC40, IIRC.

Fisher? Are you kidding me? ! ! Kasparov by a long shot. Fisher is merely a washed-up hasbeen shell of his former dominating self.

:) :) :) ha ha. I'm sorry. I have no idea who those guys are. How I derived my handle is a long and uneventful story, but it really has nothing to do with the game of chess, I must confess. I have to admit that I am intrigued by the concept of it all, though.

I'd like to order the #1 special. Its such a great deal and so versatile. Love the V93 and the Sm57. I have an Oktava 012 which the 603 has been compared to as almost identical in sound. So you have a nice little package--a neutral LD condenser, a SD condenser and a workhorse dynamic. All good quality mics.

If you soften up the fortune cookie, sometimes you can fabricate a shock mount out of it, which will come in handy for the 603.

That's O.K. chessrock, there's room in the world for non-chessplayers too.
(I married one!)
