Welcome to Acoustic Guitars!

The big question to ask the guitar & bass members now is if this forum should just stay acoustic guitar or widen to be acoustically stringed instruments....And if the latter is chosen, if this title is clear for people or not. If we see that there is not much traffic going on here we can close shop and move back all the threads.

Sometimes, the best way to find something out is to just try it.

This is the best we have to go with at the moment and it is alot more valid then the polls conducted here on this forum where 20 people bother voting. Like I said, this is why we are trying this forum out.

*dons finance/stats nerd cap for a moment*

There's also a question of selection bias, however. The survey weights all opinions equally, including those from people with no particularly strong opinions one way or another who may or may not spend much time in the guitar forums, while a poll, which might solicit fewer responses, will tend to self-select respondants who 1.) spend the most time in the forum, and 2.) have the strongest opinions. If those 20 people who bother voting represent 75% of the Guitar forum regulars, then that's actually arguably a more representative sample than a survey of thousands where those 20 opinions are weighted amongst people who check this forum once a week tops, or not at all.

*takes nerd cap off*

I don't have any particularly strong feelings one way or another - I think both sides have valid points. That said, the one piece of feedback I would like to offer is this - if we do end up permanently splitting the guitars forum into "Electric stringed instruments" and "acoustic stringed instruments," I'd rather see it as a separate forum rather than a subforum, so the most recent post for each is visible, rather than the most recent post from whichever one was last updated.

Drew, that wasn't the question.

This was the question.

I'm afraid your answer doesn't fit the current survey so must therefore be criticism and as such aggressively dismissed and disregarded. Especially as it is pretty much what I said originally.

Thanks for playing though.

If I have question about a piezoelectric PU and amplifier for my acoustic, does it go in Guitars and Basses where the electric stuff resides or in Acoustic?

I'm just so confused :(

................................................................

Put it in the n00b5 forum.

Just joshing.;)

OK so tomorrow we I will start a poll on the guitar forum is people want the forum splint into essentially electric & acoustic string instruments or not.

Though again, I disagree that 20 heavy users answering the poll would be representative.

I think it could be representative of the regular users of a forum. How many forum regulars do we really have in Guitars? 20? 30?

Sorry - not trying to pick a fight or being difficult, mostly just thinking out loud here. :)

EDIT - I mean, the real question is "representative of what" I think. Of the opinions of all the regular- and semi-regular users of HR.com? Definitely not. Of the opinion of the subset who actually use the Guitars forum on at least a weekly basis? I think that's more likely, and I think that's the sample you really want to focus on here. My two cents...

Shit, I'm so bad at this! :laughings:

Chatar-La, I don't think folks are against the idea or motive in this instance, it's more about how it is implemented. TBH I am completely ambivalent about splitting the subject matter, I would happily read and respond in both sections or just the one we had.

Just as an observation though to back up my point about the validity of the survey. If as you say there were 20 heavy users who asked for this where are they now? That kind of illustrates my point.
