Weirdness On Logic Express

I've been using Apple's Logic Express software for a good year and a half now, and this has been the only thing bothering me:

It appears that Logic doesn't allow you to differentiate between "In" and "Out" when you connect a device, such as a Lexicon Alpha USB interface. It prompts me when I connect it, asking me if I want to use it as my audio device. I click yes, but then I have to use the Lexicon as my output too, meaning I have to connect my monitors to it. Is there a way to use the Lexicon as my recording device, but still use a different output? Thanks.

Which version of Logic Express? 7 or 8?

You change audio settings by going to Applications->Utilities-> Audio MIDI Setup

Sorry, I'm running Logic Express 8. And I took your advice, and those settings don't seem to apply to Logic. In Logic's preferences, there's a section for audio devices, but it only lets you change the device, and not whether you want to use it for input, output, or both.

You generally should not try to mix devices like that because they are likely to drift slowly out of sync with each other, but yes, it might be possible by creating an aggregate device in AMS. Don't be surprised if the sound quality gets worse, though, as it will probably end up clocking the USB interface crudely to bus packet timing instead of clocking it to the built-in crystal clock. Maybe if you make it the master clock, it might work, but I have no idea if that's possible. Experiment.
