weird edirol vsc problem

I don't know what to make of this. Sonar 2. I just started having a problem where whenever I load a project with the Edirol VSC DXi, all the sounds are totally off. They are out of tune and don't sound like the right instrument. However, if I then insert a second instance of the VSC into the project, it sounds normal, and the first VSC reverts to sounding normal also. The problem is, if I save the project, when I reload it, I am back to square 1.
It is like the VSC is not properly loading or initializing when I open a project, but adding another instance of it resets it somehow.
Any suggestions?

We can't help you if you don't even give system specs...

You don't even say what soundcard your are using.

OK, Sorry.
I use a Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz, 768 MB Ram. It's a Dell. I have an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 Soundcard. Windows XP Home.
What's strange about this is that everything worked normally until today. I wonder if new software I installed could have messed things up? I recently installed Mozilla Firefox because I was tired of Internet Explorer. I don't see how that would affect things, however.

What sampling rate and bit depth are you using?

I am using 24/96, as I (almost) always do.

I remember reading that VSC doesn't like running at 96KHz. Try 44.1 or 48 and see if the problems go away

But then I would have to convert all the audio files in my project! If you read the original post, you will see that the VSC works fine when I insert it anew. The problem is when I load a project that already has it.
Also, it has been working fine for ages--I don't see why the problem should have started now.

It's not the VSC after all

Okay-interesting. I seem to have solved my problem. I noticed it was happening with other soft synths too-in particular the DS404 sampler.

It turns out I changed my default audio settings to 16/44 for another project. Whenever I loaded a project that was in 24/96, sonar seemed to have a problem realizing that it needed to play the DXis at 24/96 as well--so they all sounded high and tinny.

Strangely, if you added in another DXi (like the dreamstation, for example) the problem solved itself, even if you didn't route anything to the new DXi. Weird.

This ever happen to anyone else?
