Hello all,

Can someone let me know what they think of this clip I've made and posted. It was done with a SM57 about 6 feet in front of the kick, about 3 feet up. I put a little VST effects on it with some eq, just to liven it up a bit, well I tried.

The drumming was done by me, sort of a bad version based on Jeff Porcaro's beat in the Toto song "Rosanna". I'm playing on my Pearl Masters Studio (birch) kit with my Pearl Ultracast snare. I think it sounds fine, but I'm wearing headphones so I can't be too sure. Please critique it for me, thanks in advance.

Rosanna Based Groove

edit - let me correct that, not really a shuffle feel, actually, not at all.

edit#2 - some peeps on another forum think i sped it up. it does appear that way. but i think I might have done that while messing about with effects. hum... wierd

Sure...i'm not sure what you want critiqued though...

If its the sound of the kit then at small tom your hitting need to be tuned. I couldn't hear it properlly but it sounded way to high for my ears...but that could just be me :)

If it's the groove you want people to critque then nice groove, only thing I'd add is ghost notes, Adds so much to a groove, and then possibly some accented high hat, maybe for the 2 and the 4 just slightly open hi hats so you get a different sound.

If it's the recording..well with a sm57 then it's kewl. I'm not sure what i can add as i dont know ho good a recording you can get with on sm57, i've never tried it. It all sounds a little high pitched and dry sounding. Just not the sound i like oout of a drum kit. There seems to be no bottom end to the kit, makes it sound.....well not what i'm used to i guess.

But nice playing :D

tap-tap/tap-tap/tap-tap

you've got to get that hi hat swingin to nail that shuffle.

I honestly thought it was a drum machine. It may be the connection or somthing though.
