you could also try and pull out all the highs and most of the lows to give just a narrow frequency spectrum to work with. ghosts love midrange... and reverse reverb. just ask the "ghost hunters."
 
dude, Phil Collins is a top notch producer...that's not to say he hasn't written some cheese but the guy is massively talented and can sing his balls off
