I am 100% guilty of cross-posting, and I'm willing to suffer the consequences, but I just gotta know!! I have a question about Wave Lab 4.0. How do I add an effect to just part of a wav file? I can highlight the part I want, but from there I can't figure out how to get to all my DX plugins to effect just that part. In fact, I can't get to my plugins at all except thru the mixer, and that applies the effect to the whole file. I have a song that contains a drum fill, and I want to add reverb to just that part. CAN'T DO IT !!What am I missing?

Also, how do I get this thing to play ONLY the portion I have highlighted? I highlight a section, press 'play', and it keeps right on going. Can I do this without having to go up into the toolbar and telling it to stop at the end of the selection? And what is all this stuff about 'Play from cursor to next edge'? 'Play from cursor to start of file'? Thanks alot.

Ed

it could be explained , but I think it's a lot easier if you read the manual and help files....they could be a bit "unclear" sometimes, but I'm sure you'll understand the fundamental bits...
good luck
cheers

Give a guy a break. I just got the program, and I wanna make some noise. I'll eventually get way in to the manual, but I'm excited, and I don't wanna spend 6 hours reading! Never mind, I'll figure it out myself. Sheesh !!! Thanks anyway, dude. I'll start reading!! Have a good one.

Guitar Ed,
If you find out from the manual in 6 hours you'll be doing OK, the Steinberg manual is bloody awful.

Well, that's kinda what I'm finding out. I don't wanna get off on a tangent here, but I thought these forums were here to help each other out. I can't stand posting a question just to have someone come back with "read the manual". If it were that easy, there wouldn't be a need for a platform like this. I'm getting it, and I'll continue to get it, but I don't see why some of these guys can't just throw you a bone once in awhile. Sorry if I sound like I'm pissing and moaning. I do get an awful lot from this board.

Ed,
for the questions you asked noone will (can) give you answers that are a whole lot different to what manual tells you...I, to be honest, would be copying and pasting answers from the manual to help you...POINTLESS....and when you say that this board is about helping people, you are right, but it's mostly not so common problems that are being discussed here...
Not questions like: "How do I play only one bit of a file??"
Sorry my friend, I don't mean to be harsh in any way, but that's the way it is...
I was excited about my new toys, just as you are, but I stared at them for a while like a dumb cunt (and read instructions), before I actually started "making noise" as you put it....
Regards and stay funky...
:)

well, I'm not trying to be harsh, either, but in the time it took you to type the bullshit you replied with, you could have just typed 'make a selection, add an effect, click render, then click selection'. See? That wasn't so hard, was it? I spent a year getting to know my way around Sonar, so don't think I won't open a manual. I want to get to know Wave Lab, and I will. But if someone asks a question that you don't think merits a serious answer, do us all a favor and stay the hell out of it! Maybe I am trying to be harsh. Later.

you are wrong my friend....I'm not sure who wasted more time typing "bullshit"..maybe I was trying to save you time by telling you not to ask such questions, but to go straight to the manual instead(which you at the end probably did) ....
I hope you're not gonna argue any more, and yeah, you were right,...I probably shouldn't have posted......

No, I'm not gonna argue anymore. Life is too short for this crap. I do, however, rely on forums like this for information, and I feel that your approach was almost arrogant. You seemed to assume that I know nothing about PC-based recording, and that's just not accurate. I noticed you edited your last post, removing the part where you called my questions 'stupid', and I guess I should appreciate that. On the other hand, I searched some of your posts, and I didn't really find many 'uncommon' problems or questions coming from you. At any rate, let's not fight anymore, and good luck with whatever it is you do, and I'll get a handle on WaveLab, just like I did with Sonar. C-ya

bingo....just glad that you saw that to actually realise that I didn't mean to be "arrogant"
good luck to you pal...:)
