Why, when I mix down to a .wav file and an MP3 file from Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro, does the MP3 sound great and the .wav sounds crappy?

Not a clue. If anything, the reverse should be true - since the .mp3 discards some of the sound in order to reduce the size.

Are you playing back the .wav and the .mp3 on the same device?

Yeah, that sounded weird! If you are using Winamp, are you running any effects?

wav/mp3

I'm playing back the mp3 through Creative Player (Creatiove Labs) and the wav through Real Player.

I recommend not to use Real Player. Both in the same player, i.e. Windows Media Player... mplayer2.exe.

Ditto. You can not compare two different formats using two different playback devices. Use WinAmp or Media Player for both, as moskus suggested. In fact, doesn't Creative Player also playback wave files??

Thanks guys.......

..I'll try that when I get home.
