Watch out for this company (in the UK!)

Thats the way to do it. I always pay for things via credit card for this reason.

Alan.

I would say this is an unnecessary step that will just annoy the vendors. I would have gone in and talked them into a refund quoting the law that protects you - it should always work. Credit card reclaims should be a last resort - they get people's backs up. You never know if/when you're going to want to buy from them again and you won't get a good deal then (if they know who you are when you go in, of course).

I did not mean as a first step, this is what you do if the vendor refund does not happen. You should always try to sort it out with the vendor first.

Many years ago in Australia we had an airline go bankrupt, tens of thousands of travellers lost their money, some were stranded, all the people that payed with credit cards got a refund.

I bought a Behri Octaver pedal about 6 years ago. It wouldn't work with batteries. I sent it back the 2nd one they sent didn't work with batteries either - both worked with a transformer. I sent it back for a refund - no worries - Australian consumer law is pretty good - even more so now the The Checkout has promoted the how & why.
A dud batch does happen from time to time. Mind you it is the only Behri thing I've bought that was useless and I have about 7 items.

I quoted the wrong post! My understanding from this thread is that the OP hasn't yet been in and tried to sort it out under the relevant consumer rights laws.

I haven't been in personally, as the shop is 150 miles away, but I did speak to the manager of MUSIC WAREHOUSE last friday. He refused to further replace the unit, or to refund my money, even though I quoted the 1979 Sale of Goods act!

Hence my advice for any UK musicians to avoid this particular shop!

I have now had an e-mail from him, asking me to send the unit back and "and engineer will inspect it and write a report" - the implication being that I have damaged it in some way! As I said, all I did was put a battery in and plug a lead in, same as the new (working ) unit!

I will send the unit back (as I am obliged to do) but have also instructed my bank to recover the money, if possible!

The only consolation is that the amount of money is small! imagine if I had bought a second-hand £1000 mixing desk or PA system and it didn't work!

I tried talking to the manager and quoting the "Sale of Goods Act" but he point-blank refused to refund my money!

Oh yes I do! One thing is certain: I will never deal with this company again!

Fair enough - I didn't realise all of that detail. In the past I've always found a bit of knowledge of the law and being able to spell out how they're not compliant is enough. If he's just being a dick about it then getting the credit card company into it is what they deserve.

I live quite near there - want me to go and piss through their letterbox?

If not ..... a little poo can go a long ways. ;)

HEY! Now the smileys are taking. Bring out the poo.

This is getting a bit messy.
