Warning: Lots of pedals! Mysteriously Lost All Signal AFTER UPRGRADING A FEW PEDALS for PEDALS

Background:

I recently wanted to up my pedalboard because I grew tired of some pedals. With some 'upgrades' in mind I mainly did some one-for-one switcheroos, like a Boss Gigadelay instead of my old DD-5, for example. All of sudden I lost ALL signal when I did this. Everything was plugged in well (all my wires are those George Lynch do them yourselfers which are great). Wierd how that happened! Thought I would show you guys some detailed slides to help answer what had caused this?

Attached are three PowerPoint slides. Here are some descriptions of the slides:

1.)The first shows my old setup which worked great, but I replaced and added some pedals. Thought it wasn't anything too major. Guess I was wrong. Slide1.webp

2.)After replacing the pedals, I lost all signal and got DEAD AIR only when I turned on my Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor. After unplugging some stuff and directly testing the connections and pedals to my amp, I isolated the problem to signal loss in the effects loop of the NS-2. The problem went away when I moved my WOBO Buffer/Booster to the start of this NS-2 effects loop. (See slide) Slide2.webp

3.) This is what I think the new setup should look like. Mainly I would like to know everyone's input, particularly on the MXR Dynacomp placement and also how and if it might relate to the Wobo Buffer/Booster. Some advice would really help before I dive into pedalboard hell, again!

Finally, what gives with the sudden death in my effect's loop? Did those replacement pedals in Slide 2 really suck up that much more signal then the old, very similar ones? What do you guys think? And what about that Dynacomp, does it belong next to the Buffer, a pedal that used to work fine right before my amp?

Thanks for your help!

You could maybe put some kind of preamp or signal booster in front of all of it...

I ran into having an dedicated power supply for my boss dd-20. I draws some current. I sure this will be a problem for you because of all the effects you are using.

As far as the lost signal.... who knows?

cobradenim,

I find that setup interesting, but could not quite tell from the diagram.....

are you going guitar --> cable --> amp or amp ---> guitar ---> cable ?

I found the signal chain a little confuding despite the hi-res image.

It doesn't matter. I tried it both ways and it still works!!!

But seriously, That's alot of pedals. He should just get a Line 6 pods or similar and he could have one board and program all the patches for different effects without signal loss. I think one to three pedals is enough but to each his own. I'm a simple man.

I could respect that. Your diagram beats mine! Incidentally, the guitar looks like my Explorer :)

My vote is a loose connection somewhere, especially since the old setup worked. Or maybe the settings on your noise suppressor got nudged.

Without question. The best place for it would be in the guitar. Bartolini makes a very nice one for not too much money (I don't recall exactly, but I think it retails for about $50 - though it's a special order so it will take quite a while to get it). The part number is AGB. Or you could get the MPB1-918 (about double the price) which can be used as an 18 volt system (which is a very good thing in that it doubles the headroom on the system). The MPB1-918 (which is not a special order - or at least Allparts carries them on a regular basis) is intended as a dual buffer for both magnetics and piezos, but if you don't have piezos you can just not use that half of the unit.
