Yeah, cool!

I was trying to determine if the effects "Insert" and "Loop" were actual patch points, or logical patches, and it appears they're logical (software) not physical patch points. ;)

It's cool that you started a Yahoo user's group for the MRS-8.

Those links above are really informative about the Zoom MRS-8. I'll have to read more later.

I can't say I'm so bowled over with the Zoom MRS-8 that I'll go out and buy one tomorrow, but it's a cool little unit. 2-inputs and 2-simul/max is still limiting, but not necessarily a deal breaker, as I have other various machines with the same limitations!! However, keep in mind that I have loads of other gear with higher capability, so I don't feel limited by any one recorder's features. ;)

For however cool the MRS-8 might be, whenever I want to be either dazzled or frustrated with a digital recorder, I have the Tascam Pocketstudio 5 that I can play with.

Thanx again!!;)

Thanks guys. If I can work it out with InvisibleEnemies, then I'll probably getting that used 464 :D

hey Grey Angel,
Good deal man good to hear your getting a better machine. :)
Have fun!

Hey Dave,
the MRS-802b-CD is the bigger Bro of the MRS-8 and is even more expanded and is only like $599.00.
It has to send/return effects busses. Plus other cool goodies.
Thats a cool one to look at.

By the way!
How did you guys get so much rep power and I am still sitting here with a lousy "Rep Power: 1"? :(

HMMM? I gotta know......

Cool! The 464's a heck of a nice machine,...

and,... and,... and,...
(here I go again!!!!)

The Tascam 464 is a highly capable cassette 4-track, with 12 inputs (total),... including 4-full mixer strips, 2-Aux-Sends, a separate Cue Monitor, and records either 2-tracks simultaneously in "buss" mode, or 4-tracks simultaneously in "direct" mode. It's level bar-meters and certain functions are displayed in a black/white LCD.

The 464 was the topline Tascam Portastudio in the early 90's(date?), and if it's in v-good condition, it should be capable of making excellent recordings. You don't have any of the limitations of the X-12/MF-P01, or any other limiting factor that was discussed above.

The 464 is a 4-track Portastudio that has all the capability Tascam could pack into a Portastudio. It's very comparable to the 424mkIII. Not that this means anything, but the 464 has the identical mixer section of the 564 Minidisc Portastudio. In other words, it's a full-featured package that I'd have no trouble recommending to friends and clueless newbies alike.;) In fact, I have one myself!! Gee, are you surprised??? Naaaawww!!! ;)

I can't speak for Grey Angel, but I got my rep power from giving similar advice to this in posts, and people just respond. I got it from just being myself. For however opinionated or inflammatory my opinions may seem, people often agree with me. I'll say outright that I didn't get this rep power from any suckass "rep power thread"!! ;)

Yeah, those rep power threads are so lame.
I got into the post padding one but found my self wishing I hadnt.
Fortunatly I stopped at only a few, still dumb as heck though.

omgwtf are you serious!?! (jk) But really, I didn't know it had all THAT!!! I'm deffinitely going to be making invis's phone ring off the hook now :D

I really don't need all the inputs, but sometime soon I may indeed join a band (yes, a real one, finally), and there would be 5 people going at it. But, did you say that it came out in the 90s (which I am perpetually stuck in???) :D

Cool beans.

And as for the rep, yes, you can get it for giving good sound advice, or you can do like me, and submit dozens of worthless-crap posts a day :D I'm really not sure how I got as much as I have...might be from kissing ass, I dunno. *whistles*

maybe I should try that worthless crap posts thing maybe I'll hit 20 in a week. HAHAH!

Padding posts is just adding to a useless tread to add to your post count, which there was one of but was shutdown since it was abusive to the rules and just kinda dumb.

Laters again boyz!

WHOA Dave!
Is that the predisesor to the original 424?
Looks almost identical to the 424!

I may have nearly 4500 posts, but I've been on this board over 5 years!

I read on my profile that's 2.31 posts per day!;)

Blaze,...

Just due to the design similarities, I'd say (estimate) that the 464 was the "topline" Portastudio concurrently with the 424 as "midline" gear. I think they were produced and marketed at the same time. ;)

The 464 shares many features with the 424(std), the 488(std) and the 564 MD-Portastudio. They must have been designed and marketed roughly at the same time.

She's sweet, ain't she? Mmmmmmmmmmm. Yeah!

Ahem,... it almost goes without saying that you want to get a 464 (or any recording gear) in as good condition as possible, with low use, having been kept clean, etc.

$250 about 8 years ago. :o

It's never too late, Blaze.

Your probably right but my wife would probably shoot me if I was to show up with any analog machine.
Shes into digital, hence the electronic drums she plays.

Don't piss off the ol' lady!

...............

Trivia: I had a girlfriend about 15 years ago who could play drums and sing lead or backup right from the drummer's stool! That was really somethin'... ;)
Cool girlfriends like that always have a hidden darker side, though!

A little late in this thread, but I used to have a Zoom Mrs-4. It's got some nice features. But I've got an old Tascam 424 that blows it away in terms of sound quality. Just my opinion.

Hello Everyone!

I have just a couple questions.

1. Is the Tascam 414 a good recorder? Its the older one not the MK2.

2. Is $125 a good price? My brother-in-law is said he would sell me his for that price.

Thanks this thread is very very helpfull!

That's cool, man. Thanx!

The 2x2 architecture limit of a lot of current multitrack recording gear has me basically turned off, when it comes to my own prospective gear choices. I feel that's too limiting. Even though I basically work alone and 2x2 would be workable, I try to look at porta-format recorders' features in how they would handle recording a band. That's it, flat out. I'm the lone home recordist now, but I've been in lots of bands, and I've recorded a fair amount of outside bands, and a 2x2 recording architecture really doesn't cut it when you speak of full on multitrack production. That's not to say I don't like live-to-stereo recording, 'cause I do, and I've done plenty of that,... but it was by choice, not because my recorder channels and tracks were maxed out at 2.

I'm sorry, I guess I'm rambling, but that's it in a nutshell.

It's also not to say I don't have recorder all-in-one'r's with 2x2 architecture, 'cause I do, but none of 'em would necessarily be considered my primary recorder. 2x2 architecture (2-inputs/2-track-simul) is okay when you work alone, or if by chance you choose to go live-to-stereo as a concious decision or choice of format.

Anyhow, that's the end of this rant! ;)

Sound quality is one of the most important things in recording, isn't it? It doesn't matter how'ya get it, as long as you get it! ;)

Thanx again!
