audiophiles may scoff at the very thought...

but the $50 behringer ecm8000s sound pretty great as overheads.

i always see old forum threads about the oktava 012s being on sale for $99 a pair at guitar centers back a few years ago, but now they're like $300 used on ebay. i need some decent overheads for some home recordings, grind/post-hardcore bands mostly so they rock the hell out of the cymbals and bells. i'm thinking of settling on the mxl sdcs like the 603s or the newer 993s just because i'm sure they'll be decent and its gonna take a lot to settle my conscious on the horror stories i've heard about oktava's quality
somebody talk some sense in to me?

all of the oktavas that I have used (own an MK319, and my drummer has 3 012's) have been great quality mics; the letdown, however is the quality of the shockmounts. They tend to just fall apart all by themselves. But maybe I was just unlucky.
