Want to upgrade - need some help tho!

Im just looking to upgrade my cheap CAD GXL2200 set up to something a little better. Im looking to spend in the $300-375 range and im just trying to get the most bang for my buck. And yeah, I am pretty much a n00b.

I was thinking of getting this:
Mic (MXL 4000)
Preamp/Mic (Presonus TubePre with MXL990 Mic)
And some cheap headphones (AKG M70)

That comes out to around 350 total.

I already have an EMU 0404 card and a behringer mixer. Basically, a really cheap set up. So any help, tips/tricks, advice, etc would really help.

Get a used AT4050 and be done with it. This mic is a true swiss army type of mic and I go to it pretty often. Works on a variety of basic sources and can be used for all tracks.

I think you got there a very good mic, an excellent pre and very good tracking headphones for cheap.
