I want to use BFD software, with a delta 1010 .

I want to get a keyboard for this, so I can eventually do other things with the keyboard too.

Here is one choice of keyboard. the M-audio axiom 61 key.

would this be very hard to learn how to use with bfd as I have never as much as smelled a midi device?

I don't think it would be very hard at all. I suppose one of your challenges will be getting the latency right for if you want to directly hear the midi that you play into your PC...like if you have it playing a synth or playing BFD.

I think controlling a midi drum program like that, if you want to do it in real time, is alot easier with a pad controller like the M-Audio Trigger Finger or something like that, but if you want the keyboard for other things I can understand that. I always had a hard time trying to play the drums with a keyboard....with the pads - no problem. Just something to think about.

Still, I usually just program all of my drums manually with a mouse anyway. :D

I'm on Reaper and use my midi keyboard to control the snare, toms, cymbals and a regular kick pedal against a box with a mic in it to trigger the kick in BFD. Works like a charm but I still suck at drums. Don't use a usb connection for the midi keyboard. The midi latency goes up and down with usb = it's not constant. It differs with different systems and midi controllers. Just use a midi cable between your 1010 and keyboard to be safe.

That axiom looks pretty versatile. Buttons, sliders, pads, semi-weighted. Should be a lot of fun. Basic midi is very simple. It's about as complicated as using a mic.

MIDI out from the axiom to MIDI in of the 1010. Set the 1010 MIDI in as your track's input device, bring up BFD, and you're rolling. You'll want to adjust your 1010's latency as low as you can get it to run without any clicks/pops.
