Let's back up a little bit.

What do you need to do that your setup cannot accomplish?

Tell us the

- kind of music
- number of musicians or tracks recording at once
- MIDI, direct record or microphone use - how much of each?
- Same room or separate rooms?
- are you recording live drums? electronic or a drumkit?
- do you record out "in the field" or strictly in the studio?
- is this an ongoing studio effort or are you just setting something up for the first time?
- Anyone else involved or is this you and your gear?

This kind of information will help you get useful answers. Anyone can say "Get the Soundcraft" and they might be right. But it won't help you much if a mixer does a bunch of stuff you don't need to do right now.

hip hop music, im looking for a control surface/mixer, we use about 8 tracks at once, no drums, but electric guitar through our interfance box (m audio mobile pre phantom power) used with logic pro. one Mic connected to the interface box, mainly looking to record vocals and mix down a song in logic, i know we can do it digital on screen, but we also looking to use hardware. we want to be able to move the faders by hand not just with the mouse. we record strictly in a studio, separate rooms with a recording booth, 1 person recording at a time, first time studio. we are also looking possibly with talkback. i was looking at the muc and tascam fw1082. wut do u think?

Until you get your feet a bit wetter, think about the Behringer B-Control unit. No talkback, but you can control Logic with a Master and seven faders. It's about $ 180. You can do a lot with this unit before upgrading to a more expensive control unit. You can also link them, and link one with a rotary unit that will give you more functions. Faders are motorized and track what's on the screen.
