Waitin' on Ashley - bluegrass style

A while ago I tried pushing a CD of myself along with 20+ friends mixed into the different songs. I never ended up publishing the CD, for one reason or another. One of my favorites on the CD was my original "Waitin' on Ashley," featuring

Ashley Lewis - mandolin
Andy Hatfield - guitar
Doug Knecht (me) - banjo
Ross Sermons - acoustic bass

When I recorded it, it was done unfortunately on a USB audio storage device, in Pro Tools, and I didn't know you shouldn't use USB at the time.. I was just getting the studio up and running without internet access to learn all these do's and don'ts. Well, after I boched up the master with a little too much compression and saturation, I put it on CD. Then my USB drive permantly failed me. So I looked into the issue and got a firewire storage device. But my tracks were all lost, and couldn't do much with them.

Despite those problems, I hope you like this song "Waitin' on Ashley".

Well gave it a listen with my eyes closed true test of a song. Very nice well made up and played

Great stuff; really great playing and feel.

The only problem I hear is with Andy's guitar. Try to get him to stop pointing the mic at the sound hole (or neck joint). If possible, try pointing his mic towards the bridge, coming up from the lower bout of the guitar. You'll get less finger squeaks and more top end clarity.

But that's about my only nit.

Okay, maybe one more nit.

If I were producing it, I wouldn't wait so long on the intro before the whole band comes in.

I love bluegrass, do some banjo picking myself [beginner to intermediate]. I'm a rocker at heart, but I loved this! Would have liked to hear a little more separation [clarity?] on the individual instruments during the comping, but overall, the sound is good, playing is nice and tight. Nice pickin' on the 5 string!
