Here is something weird I have never experienced before. Seeing this is computerish ,I'll ask it here. Presently If I type an address in the address bar, hit go or click on enter.nothing happens. Whats up?
Jim

have you tried just rebooting the computer yet? what browser are you using?

yes I have rebooted, no luck. System restore,no luck.had this issue for 3 days. Internet explorer 6. Never heard of this before!

Sounds like a virus. Give your computer a good clean. Also try running Firefox

I was on my dad's computer last night and it had the same problem (which I have never encountered before)...nothing happened when I typed in the address in the "main" address bar (near the top of the screen) and hit enter. I was able though to successfully use the other address bars under the main/top bar (google and Verizon).

Yeah, strange isnt it? I have never seen nor heard of this. If I click on the search spuglass, the search "menue" comes uyp on the right of my screen.I can then type in there a web address and it will find it. My mouse and keyboard are wireless. My enter key does work. I might try sitching back to wired. Maybe there is some type of funky defect with it.Oh, if I click on the address bar, it does go highlighted just as if all is normal, but after clicking or hitting go nothing happens.

run microsoft antispyware program and see if it detects anything. maybe it's some spyware thing.

Sounds like a bug with the latest Microsoft update.

From the link..

"When you type an address in the Address box in Microsoft Internet Explorer, nothing happens"

Can you back out of the latest update?
I guess I could but I updates probably 1 month ago, and this just came up 3 days ago.

You could try the instructions in the resolution section if it applies to you. There is also mention that some HP software could cause the issues.

That doesn't surprise me. HP also outsourced "quality" when they sent everything else to India.

I find HP drivers problematic, and most of the time. Usually the printer drivers on CD are already obsolete by the time you get the new printer home.

They spend more time writing code into the drivers to get you to order ink from them, than they do making the code run properly. The drivers are pervasive and get into all sorts of things on the machine. They constantly dial home (internet) and consume a large amount of cpu cycles for a print driver.

Have you got a HP machine? It probably is that update

My machine is a dell but I did install an HP printer a short time ago, maybe 1 month. I'll remove it and see what happens

you guys are good!!!!

I just dumped off the HP printer software and my address bar is back in bidniz! I can use my enter button or click on go! :) Thanks to all. What the hell is up when you cant even but a cheap printer and expect it to work these days!

XP shjoud have built in drivvers for most HP printers, even if it isn't your exact model, a close one will often work fine.

MS latest round of updates have caused a bunch of troubels in various programs fromwaht i have seen. THey will eventually fix them and reissue.
