Hey guys, This is my very first post in this community :D
So show me the love.
What can you recomend for sounds/instruments in vsti's.
Im looking for electronic and accoustic stuff.
(No hardware please).
It doesnt have to cover any other styles but R&B/Pop & Hip Hop.

Can I hear from ya.

I get a lot of good atmospheres (in fact i use one of the vsts in the pack on almost every track ive done lately) from the korg legacy VSTi collection.

Thanx reevolution for bringin it to me.

I do have that vst and it is pretty cool.
Anyone else got somethin, cause I need to know.

Bring it.

Anyone.

if you like the analog soung of the korg collection you could also try the mini-moog vsti, or the arp 2600. the mini moog vsti has a wide range of sound options. if you want some affordable strings you could use synfulorchestra... it sounds ok.
or you could always cheat and find some sample cd's ... i've found some great jazz riffs b4.

I use Hypersonic most of the time. Although I would even like to know what others use with R&B and hip hop, it's all about being different. In other words you can use anything. It's all about creativity. Ethnosphere is cool too.

Thanks so far. I have a rant, not sure if any one else has experienced this. here goes...

On nearly any music related forum.
This gets posted.

I want to do such and such style of music, anyone recomend anything?
Lots and lots of people come up with stuff- saying this & that would be ideal for you.
Thats with nearly any style of music cep, you gessed it R&B & Hip hop

Generally for this type of music, the remarks to the post read more like...

" Man " you got to be original.
You can use anything.
"Come On" its the attitude that counts, dog.
I record my nephew burping and make my beats from that 'bro' Nothin else needed.
I use my friends stuff and that Rocks but I cant tell you what it is.
Just use vinyl. nuff ned.
OR Even Dissin the style.
All interesting but a total waist of time.

Give me a break.

Don't know where you are going? But maybe you should try the burping. You can use that as the snare or a kick drum dependig on the tone of the burp. And if the burp is really nasty you may even use it as a crash cymbal.

I want to know what others are using too. But you are always gonna get somebody saying "be different" (Like me). Maybe it's just because people are tired of the same stuff. Eminem-like beats... Neptunes-like beats... Tupac-like beats...

Don't get me wrong. I love those type of beats. I just think sometimes it feels like music is becoming like a dead-end job. Nothing new.

If you want to use what everyone else is using... that's ok. If you want to be different... that's ok too.

The big producers are trying to be different while we are trying to be like them.

I use Zero G Altered States and Absynth 3, both of which I love.

I feel you on the rant, but honestly, no one wants to here the same shit over and over again. I've been producing beats for artists from coast to coast the past few years and when I started out, the biggest complaint was that my stuff sounded too corporate. Believe it or not, there's a huge market for this underground, off the wall stuff.

All in all man, I feel you on the rant and you are definitely entitled to your opinion. I would suggest that you try to download demo's of various VST's and see what's good for you.

I feel I need to explain somthing.
I dont want to be a clone of anyone else! Even the people that I look up to,
now thats out the way ...

We're here cause we want to make music, can I hear a 'YeahMan'

Well in the original camp there seems to be two schools
both want originality, thats cool but the focus is slightly different.

*The first school (which Im in) wants to write/make songs.
These people are usually happy to use good sounds that someone else come up with
eg sample library and they may tweek to some degree.
You could still produce the song in an original way.

*The second school want to be cutting edge/inovative to the point of
comming up with their own original sounds as well as original songs &
original production (Power to you guys).
These people form/ pioneer styles and sub styles as well as challenge existing
boundaries.

Heres the thing- not everyone wants to or has to re-invent the wheel.
There are some great musical inovators and there are some who have taken
that inovation (of someone else's) to a new level.
Both are important.

Man for me I just want to write, sing and produce my own thing.

My two cents worth.
