I'm looking to swap out the 540 MB drive on my VS-880 for something that has more space. How big of a deal is this? Can I just get a laptop drive and slap it in there? Or are there operating system hangups that I'll have to worry about. I saw something about a 2 gig maximum somewhere. Looking for advice or a link to a tutorial.

Thanks,

Randal

I have a VS880EX and anything I’ve put in it works, size or brand-wise.

Not hard at all.

I have a VS880V-expanded and just switched to a 4 gig Toshiba drive.

4 1-gig partitions is the most a 880Vex will recognise....only 1 gig at a time up to 4 partitions.

The only thing that I ran into was that the hole pattern of the plastic drive caddy (bracket) was not the same as the Toshiba screw hole.
So I took a drill and "routed" out the correct spacing ...secured the drive in the caddy and then just plugged in the caddy and formatted.

Formatting takes a few hours.

Check out these links for more info ....which you may or may not need right now.

Well it's kind of difficult to find a new notebook hard drive as small as 4-6 gig. The smallest I've seen are 20 gig. Will a 20 gig work just as well? Knowing the OS can only handle for partitions of 1 gig. Will it just create the 4 partitions and work? Is Drive speed an issue. Most drives in this zone are 4500 rpm. Fast enough?

Thanks,

Randal

I did the exact same installation with the exact same hard drive. When I turned the unit on, a bunch of smoke came out of the unit and it started to burn…oh wait, that was a dream I had…nevermind.

Was that a dream ....

where you are standing with your VS880 and the smoking hardrive on top of a pyramid, dressed in a toga, and there are athousand naked screaming women below throwing pickles at you????
