I just bought a VR800 and a Tascam TM-D1000. I can't find out if I can put a 250 zip internal IDE drive in my VR800. I have an external scsi Jaz drive but it seems I can only use it for back up. Should I get an external Zip or internal? Any problems?
Thanks,
Kevin
I wouldn't bother with an external zip. The jazz might work out ok for backup if it is SCSI. But I have had nothing but trouble with the SCSI port on my FD-8.
I don't think that you could do a internal zip on the vr800. Not unless you wanted to open up the case everytime you wanted to change a disk. That would be ridiculous. From my understanding and I may be wrong, the Vr800 takes 3.5 IDE hard drives.
Do you have the vr800 in front of you, has it arrived yet? Don't buy anything more if it hasn't.
If it takes 3.5 ide's get a 20-30 gig 7200 rpm drive for like $100, install it, and you should be set for a long time.
I brought home an external zip plus 100 and it seemed to recognize and format it fine. They actually sell a version of the VR800 with an internal zip called the VR800Z. There is a side plate that comes off to expose a hole where the Zip would peek through. However, all internal drives have to be E-IDE. I have already bought the VR800 and a Tascam TM-D1000 with the IF-TAD, TDIF to ADAT converter. I can't seem to get it all working together though. What a pain in the ass. Anyone with this combo, please mail me!!!
Thanks,
Kev
